Halloween Porch Decorating

Happy almost Halloween! Today I wanted to share with you the little corner of my world that is ready for the trick-or-treating goodness that is coming our way! We've been so incredibly busy lately, that Halloween decor is coming a little late this year, but better late then never, right!?

This time around I decided that it would be fun to "Hallow-glamify" our front porch. Again, I don't know why I have such a hard time actually using orange for Halloween, but I just do. I will buy it... but then always end up tossing the color out of my Halloween mix. (hmm... I guess orange just isn't my color?)

Anyway, here are a few simple things that I did to spookify up our place.

Let's start with pillows. And let's also start off by saying that a girl can NEVER have to many. Agreed?... Good :)  ha! I made the green and white striped one with fabric from IKEA. The yellow striped one came from Pottery Barn, and the black and white pillow with all of the text on it came from the Goodwill.

Whew!  That's a mouth full! ha!

Basically what this "spring board" is... is a collaboration of a hand full of bloggers from different genre's who are given a set package of materials to create something unique and fun!

 with these cute items:

2 fat quarters

Ric-Rac

Square of unbleached cotton

Doily

First, let's be honest.

I opened the package, in about the first 5 minutes, one of my children had stolen the ric-rac and lost it.

ugh.  I'm still on the hunt. lol.

Jody also included an adorable additional yard of fabric for all of the contestants and I just couldn't keep my hands off of it, when deciding what to create.  So... I used that too :)

Fat Quarter Pillow Tutorial

Okay, so first of all, I have to say, that I get all my cute fabric from Kimberly over at

So this is where my fat quarters all came from. 10 for $20.  Can't beat THAT! :)

I've been wanting to incorporate some more grey into out entryway, and I thought that a cute polka dot pillow for our little black entryway bench would be JUST the touch I was looking for!

I knew I wanted to do some kind of embelishment on my fat quarter pillow, so that's where I started.

Here's what you need...

Slip Cover for Lampshade Tutorial

After a bit of "lamp shade covering issues"... I've finally gotten down to work and FINISHED my thrift store lamp shade, re-do!

My first issue that I had, before, was that I chose a fabric that had a straight pattern.

 Although I LOVED this fabric,...this made it VERY difficult, with a cone shaped shade, to get the pattern straight.

Drum Shade, would be perfect for this print!

So...off I went to find some fabric that had a pattern that didn't need to necessarily be perfectly lined up.

ANOTHER concern I had, when redoing this shade was...

"What if I want to change it later?  Will I have to RIP apart the shade, to get new fabric over it?"

That sounds like a lot of work.

QUE smart Hubby:  

"Why don't you just make a skirt type cover to just slide OVER it?

Then you can switch it out if you want."

GENIUS!!!!!!!!!  

Why hadn't I SEEN or thought of this before?

White Ruffle Pillow Tutorial

(Which by the way, I talked to my sister today, who lives in AZ and she said that the table looked huge, like a game or dining room table.... It's NOT! lol.  It's maybe all of 30 inches wide!... Did it look that big in the pictures???)

Ribbon Towels Tutorial

So we've moved onto working in the girls's bathroom again.

We did some fun new wall treatments yesterday!  I'm so excited to show you guys... but first... I have to paint. blahh. Story of my liiiife...

A couple weeks back I was at Walmart and they had these plain white towels on sale for $2.00 each.

So I took a friends lead and decided to make some cute ribbon towels for the bathroom.

For someone who doesn't sew... these were Seeeew easy!

I'm sure that  Miss Shey B and V and Co. would be snorting with laughter right about now, at this tutorial that I'm about to throw down, but I'll be really honest... for a girl that just barely learned how to TURN ON the sewing machine about 3 months ago... even the SIMPLEST tutorials are a MUST... when it comes to sewing, anyway. :)
