Table Redo for $12 - Holla! + My Best Tips on How to Spray Paint Furniture

Over the years I've gotten LOTS of emails with questions about this little' ol table in our entryway. I have to agree with almost everyone in saying that it's pretty much the PERFECT size for an entryway like mine. Measuring at around 56 inches wide, 35 inches tall and 11 inch wide, this lovely lady has been with us through thick and thin, and will probably always have a place in our home, one way color or another.

You know how you have something for SO long that you sometimes forget where you even got it? Well, that's happened to me once or twice with this piece, actually. I finally asked Cason where we snagged this, and he reminded me that it was from a friend who was moving about 8 years ago. He recalls that we paid $20 for it. This whole time I was thinking we picked it up at our local thrift store.

Yikes, bad memory. ha!

You can read all about our table redo, when we painted this baby white, but just so you know, it originally started out in natural wood, then went deep red with a black stain, transitioned into white with a glaze and now, we're goin' a pretty shade of green... well, Jade, to be exact.

When we painted this table white we rolled it with latex paint and a non-textured roller. This time, since I've been diggin' the whole sprayin' scene lately, I thought we'd try spray painting this table instead, and along the way share some tips and tricks with all of you.

First, we removed the hardware from the drawers and doors. I always put mine in a plastic bag, to make sure they all stay together.

As you can see, our table has been beaten up, and stained (due to a plant that leaked some water while we were away on a 3 day long vacation). No worries though, I just took a 100 grit sandpaper to the top of it, and evened everything out. The sanding got rid of most of the yellow water stains, and a few of the nicks and scratches... but any deep gouges from kids or decor, I didn't really stress over. It gives the table character and a natural "distressed" look that I sort of like.

Because our table wasn't finished with a lacquer or super-shiny paint, I didn't have to worry about reaaaally sanding hard-core. Just a light once-over was enough. Then to make sure I got rid of any dust, I used a dry cloth to wipe any unwanted dust particles away.

In the Kyrlon 24 in 24 challenge, we used this Jade color on a bathroom vanity redo, and I LOVED it! Since then I've been wanting to get my hands on some so I could spray something in my own house this shade. One coat brings out the greens in this color, two & three deepens it a LOT more and then you see all the blues that are combined as well. LOVE it!

Master Bedroom Makeover - Nightstand Revamp + A Clean Slate

Today I'm sharing some progress that we've made on our little master bedroom makeover.

We really haven't gotten that far to be honest, but every little bit counts, right?

I don't even know where to start with this dang room.

One minute I'm loving it, the next minute I'm "SO over it". What's that all about?

I feel like our master bedroom has always served as the "drop-zone" for every pile of laundry that needs folded, stack of mail that has to be sorted, or pile of junk that's awaiting to be donated or tossed. It's constantly filled with clutter and chaos; FAR from the sanctuary that it's "suppose" to be.

Well, I've had quite enough of that. I'm ready to have one of those rooms that you look at or walk into and think... "Oh, this is lovely. If I had a spare minute or some peace and quiet, I think I might like to lay my head down on that lovely bed and take a nap, here in this airy, clean, tidy room with no clutter in it."

Let's just say... we've got a long way to go.

That being said, I'm not getting discouraged. I'm slowly tackling the clutter and trying to plow forward one step at a time, so that I can get closer and closer to that beautiful bedroom both Cason and I have been wanting for so long... and it all starts with white walls and a couple of revamped old nightstands.

Towards the end of this past school year a few friends and I put together a combined garage sale with all of the stuff we no longer wanted or needed in our homes.

My cute friend Jamie was selling a pair of chunky, high-quality Thomasville nightstands, and you better believe I snatched them right up! When I told Cason I wanted them he did his little eyebrow raise and just shrugged his shoulders. At this point, I think he's stopped questioning my motives.

I knew that with a shiny new set of hardware and coat of white, high-gloss paint, these babies could ROCK again... and I was SO right! They looked AWESOME in our bedroom and gave us all the much-needed storage that we had always wanted.

Once I got those fresh new nightstands in my room, I was bound to brighten up the entire space. The only problem was... I had NO idea what color to paint it! We still hadn't decided on what our new bed, bedding, pillows, or potential other furniture would look like in here... so I wasn't ready to commit to any particular shade.

So what do you do when you can't make up your mind? Paint everything a pretty, clean, white!

That following Saturday, with my 5 year old under Grandma's watch, Cason and I got DIY'n with Emberly and Jocelynn, our twins. They were so happy to help, and it was really nice to spend some one-on-one time with them doing what we love.

Since we have plans for a rolling door outside of our bathroom, we removed the molding from around the door frame and took our TV down off the wall to get ready for paint.

After pushing everything into the center of the room, dusting the walls, baseboards, and taping off, we were in business.

Console Table Makeover & Yellow Lamps

I wanted to share with you our finished console table, in our living room.

I get TONS of questions about how this little cute table came to be, and what's on it... so I thought I'd break everything down.

I am running a trillion miles an hour, and when I crash in my bed at night,

or at 3am... 

I look over at Cason and say:

"Why haven't we TOUCHED our bathroom re-do in 2 months?"

or

"Weren't we going to start repainting the basement?"

lol.

Definitely NOT looking for sympathy comments here, I'm just stating the facts.

Being a "school Mom" is hard!  It's like a whole different life.

Back and forth, to and fro... Sign this paper, register this kid, get me new shoes, I have to read this book.

AH!

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE my kids at this age, and wouldn't go back to the,

"Changing diapers, warming up bottles, spit-up on my carpet" phase of my life...

But I think I'm finally figuring out, that even though I THOUGHT my sweet kiddos going to school would be so much easier... it proves that...

Life never gets easier... It just changes.

LOL.  Can I get an AMEN?

Entryway Table Revamp: Painting Furniture

Finally! This little guy is DONE... (till I want to paint it again... is what the hubby says. LOL)

I can guarantee you that I'm not painting this thing, again... for a LOOOONG while! lol.

Not that it was even hard... It was just one of those projects that stare you in the face... that you just can't seem to get motivated enough to finish!

Maybe it was the cold... maybe is was the lack of time... either way... it's done now!

Kitchen Table Re-Do

{Scratch and Dent Kitchen Table}

We bought this table about 2 years ago at a scratch and dent place, here in Salt Lake. We liked the shape, but were never thrilled about the wood stained top.

It worked well with our last house, but seemed a little too dark for the look I am going for now.

So I tried my hand at a little table RE-do!

This puppy had about 10 coats of epoxy on it and so I got to sanding it... and sanding it... and sanding it.

About half way through I decided I should have stripped it down, but was already on a roll.

So I kept sanding.............and sanding. LOL
