okay it IS about me... well mostly my hair, anyway :)
I mentioned on Facebook a while ago, that I had some hair extensions put in a few weeks back. I'm always so surprised that I get emails asking so many questions about my clothes, hair and jewelry.
I feel like most of the time I'm just trying to decide which of my FOUR
"nice shirts" I wore out last!
"nice shirts" I wore out last!
lol. I'm not alone here, right?
OK... Let's talk hair.
So... big secret (not)... I have the THINNEST hair EVER! I don't know if it was having kids, or what, but my hair wasn't nearly as thin when I was younger.
To be honest, I used to be really self conscious about it.... wait, I still am. LOL
After I "tried" college for a year or so, I decided it wasn't for me, and I needed to be totally hands on. So I went to beauty school. MOSTLY, just to learn about MY hair. How to understand it more, what looks best on me, and how to actually FIX it!
... Oh, and plus, I was sick of school, needed to get married, and I heard that Utah boys "dug" hair school girls.
:) hee hee jk.
:) hee hee jk.
I went through a few crazy hair styles, but I FINALLY found a style that worked for me and my thin hair that I could actually pull off!
Enter in: THE SWOOP BANG!
ha!
I've been sporting this look for about 6 or 7 years now, and STILL love it.
As you can see, there have been MANY variations of it, but pretty much, it's here to stay...I feel like a good swoop bang, is like a great pair of bootleg cut jeans.
It will never go out of style!
If anyone knows or thinks any different, please don't tell me.
Because I'm pretty sure I'll be rockin' this look at about 98 years old.

Anyway... My friend Susan from Freshly Picked told me about how she got extensions put in, from her hair stylist Mindy, and how much she loved them, and thought I should try them out too, to bulk up my hair, and fill in the
"thinner spots"

Here are a few before and afters:
And a quick video of me watching myself in my camera, and not focusing talking about how much I love them.
:)
Really though. They are AWESOME for filling in my thinner spots...
aka: The sides of my hair that NEVER grow anymore!
I haven't totally gotten down the exact cut that I want to have with my new hair, but I'm getting close!

Helllo! I am totally in love with the swoop bang as well! I am totally hoping/wishing/pleading that they don't go out of style! I don't want to be like the lady who just can't give up the fluffy bang mullet! :) I am glad that someone else appreciates the swoop bang as much as I do! P.S. LOVE the extensions!
ReplyDeletethese look FABULOUS! and you look fabulous too! I want my mom to get some extentions not for lenght but just to "fill in the thin spots" but i dont think she would ever go for it.
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome!! I have the complete opposite problem. I have so much hair that I have to cut it off constantly. I always wished for thinner hair. Isn't it funny how we always want what we don't have?? Anyway, you look great!!
ReplyDeleteLove the extension! Yay You =)
ReplyDeleteThey look fabulous! Love them!!!
ReplyDeletehaha you are too cute! they look awesome!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks gorgeous! No need to change a good thing.
ReplyDeleteCan we take a minute to recognize how DANG AWESOME you look and how you are SO CUTE in your video??!!! Love love love! Seriously, the extensions look awesome and I can totally see a difference. And don't worry girl, I'll be rockin the swoop bang look until I'm 98 too. If the go out, we'll be out together!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THEM!!!! you looked beautiful before, but even more so now!!! i had extensions for a red hot second, in almost the exact same spot..to fill in those spots that don't seem to grow so well, but they itched like there was NO TOMORROW and i couldn't stand it any longer! but back to you, love 'em!
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE SUCH A NUT...I LOVE THAT! CUTE hair! Looks SUPER natural and totally HOT!:)
ReplyDeleteJennie {CInnaberry Suite}
I wear the clip in kind of extensions
ReplyDeletesometimes...I love them! You look fab like always : ) Aja
So cute! I just watched your little video with all 3 of my kiddo's my when my youngest chimed in, "Wow, Mom! She's pretty!" And it has been decided, by all 4 of us, that your hair is muy fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't is amazing what pregnancy does to your hair??.. After six kids it is surprising that I don't look like Howey Mandel! I have not gone the extension route but am rockin' the hair products in a big way. LOVING B&B thickening spray.. most people are amazed when they find out how thin my hair is since the thickener works so well to give it body. There was a time when I would have scoffed at paying $20+ a bottle for hair stuff.. now I see it as part of my self care and mental health!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found the right solution for you!

Ummmmmm.....you are a hottie pants/hair. And that video made me giggle. In a good way. Go you! I would never have guessed. Which is good. Right?
ReplyDeleteThey look great! What a beautiful look :)
ReplyDeleteI think they look great! I am totally with you on the eye lash extensions! My sister in law has them and they look AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Swoop bangs are the best! I've had mine for around 10 years. :) ...I know this is a weird question, but have you had your thyroid tested? I only ask because after I had my daughter I felt better then before I had her, but my hair fell out and never returned like it was before. Long story short, my levels were barely low and now I take a small dose and my hair is back to normal. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE the style of your hair in the picture of you wearing a purple shirt towards the top of that collage. With your new extensions that style would rock! You're so darn pretty and cute anyways tho!
ReplyDeleteFoxY!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You are so cute! Your hair and your personality!
ReplyDeleteI am hair obsessed and love any hair discussions...in fact, why aren't there whole blogs about hair?
Anyway, the extensions look great and really look natural.
foxy.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your swoop bangs, they are gorgeous esp with those pretty black glasses of yours, so stylish! And the extensions...wow! Yay for options!
ReplyDeleteOK, I can't wait to see it at Creative Estates. Up close I am wondering if you can tell... So I don't actually know you, that is true, but reading someone's blog gives me a false sense of friendship. lol.
ReplyDeleteI NEVER would have noticed that your hair was thin on the sides, but I love the difference the extesions make. You are SO BEAUTIFUL that my eyes go straight to your face!!
ReplyDeleteBoth me and my hubby have super thick hair, but our poor daughter didn't inherit any of it. I'm so sad...and so is she. Maybe this will be a great option for her when she gets older.
Wow...they look so natural! Best ones I've ever seen for sure!
ReplyDeleteCute! :) Bahahahaha Your so funny. :) "Focus Shelley, Focus." Love it. :) It looks super cute. :) Glad you like it!
ReplyDeleteLove them! They look fabulous! I love doing extensions like that because I know I am rocking my client's world! For your Idaho readers, they can come to me and get it done!
ReplyDeleteP.S. this is McKenzie from Artistry By McKenzie*G
They look GREAT and very natural! How often do you have to change them out? Thanks for sharing with all of us "hormonally hair challenged" ladies.. ahhh, what those babies do to our bodies...ha,ha! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are darling and I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!! I really love everything about you! I know I have told you this before but I will say it again! You have so much confidence and show your cute, cute personality and I love it! You and your blog are so uplifting and I feel so happy just reading it! Thanks for being so amazing! Let that light shine girl!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks GREAT Shelley!!!! And don't worry...I'm pretty sure the swoop bang WILL forever be in style because its a great look for almost EVERYONE! And great for those bang commitment-phobics =) BTW, I find it EXTREMELY hilarious that you went to beauty school to learn how to do your own hair! Hahaha! I'm a hairstylist and the schooling was AWFUL! I would have NEVER done it unless I was committed...all those perms and waxes and old lady feet and old grandpas falling asleep in your chair! Yuck! ;) Okay...back to extensions! I have some of those clip in ones for now that I really do like...but with a two year old and a three month old (yes, she counts even though she's still in Ethiopia! ;) I usually don't make the time to put them in. BUT...they are great for dressing up a look and such. I'm a thin hair girl too and I really actually LIKE my hair with extensions ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have four nice shirts!! I think I have three that I really love. I seriously need to shop more. The extensions look great! Love the photo collage. You are such a cutie.
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute, Shelley! I'm glad to finally see the pics of the extensions. They look great! I too am a huge fan of the swoop bang. Once I have this baby, I'm going back to that. I've been a total slacker in the hair department since i got prego. lol xoxo
ReplyDeletenice shelley!! they look very natural! you're so cute! and I have to tell you how much I LOVE when you make videos... they brighten my day!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! You look A-DOR-A-BLE!
ReplyDeleteWarmly, Michelle
i have thin blonde hair too, i find that a layered bob works for me and have had some version or another of that for 20 years. i hate that i am boring but it works. i would LOVE to try hair extensions. long and luxiouriuos ones like jessica simpson:) i think that is thousands of dollars:)
ReplyDeleteIt looks so natural! I love them! I had extensions in for about 4 1/2 months and miss them! I used the ones that you put in with beads but needed to give my real hair a break. What kind did you use?
ReplyDeleteMwah!
Seriously...You are freakin' adorable! I love your blog! Your hair is so cute and you are such a BEAUTY! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOk, you are absolutely adorable! That video was hysterical! I am a hairstylist and pretty sure the swoop bang is here to stay...at least for a while. Hair looks great!

ReplyDeleteSOOOOO AWESOME! They really look great and that has to be the cutest CUTEST video ever! You are so sweet! Ok, so I've never heard of eyelash extensions...I'm all over that! Mine are thick but the CURL so very much that they look like little stubs, I hate them! ...off to google eyelash extensions. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! But I totally totally know where you're coming from. I am a thin (and fine. and straight) haired gal, too. And I fear my hair. Hate it. Self conscious about it.
ReplyDeleteI love your hair it looks great! Plus I adore your blog and your wit and charm but watching that video made me like you even more cause you are so real.
ReplyDeletehello gorgeous! love the extensions!
ReplyDeleteI think you look beautiful!! :) You have the prettiest hair color too!

ReplyDeleteHehehe! You are so funny and SEE I told you that you look awesome in your glasses. I know you hate them but them make you look muy professional. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes, the swoop bang is a fab idea as long as you don't have thin hair AND a cowlick... :(
ReplyDeleteI'm totally calling your thin and raising you the cowlick here!
You're extensions look awesome!

Your hair looks great! What are your favorite products for thin hair? I have fine, limp hair -- always looking for something to boost body.
ReplyDeleteI have the THICKEST hair ever. I have to get mine thinned. Let's trade! Your extensions look great. I've always thought your hair was adorable though-cute cut, cute color.
ReplyDeleteHow is that picture wall coming? I've been waiting with bated breath!

I love the post! You look way cute!
ReplyDeletehttp://lucyluvinyl.blogspot.com/
Wow, I never thought about the fact that extensions would work to give fullness to hair. Great idea. I have only known women to get them for length. They look great on you! Very natural, I would never know you even have them!
ReplyDeleteMy daughters and I all have lots of hair but it is curly in a funky way. What we want is the Brazilian straightening! I love your swoop bang but I can never get it to work for me because of a cowlick. It looks great for a little bit then tends to do its own thing. :(
Ugh! Women! It's so true...we all want what the other has! Hee Hee.
First of all, I've never commented on your blog, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! You do a great job and you're so funny and cute!
ReplyDeleteSecond, what kind of extensions did you get put in? Are they the single glue ins? I, like you, have lame, thin hair, and went to hair school partly just to figure out my own stinkin' hair!
However, I'm not as lucky as you, because I can't do the swoop bang, because my hair also likes to have a huge cowlick in the front and WILL NOT let me have bangs! UGH!
Love the hair! Super cute! But about the eyelashes.... try Latisse. My mom has used it and it totally works. It may be a bit pricey but I'm not sure how it compares to eyelash extensions! Any who, extend on!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're too cute! Not to mention the hair is GORGEOUS! I have always want the swoop bang look but I never seem to be able to get it to work. I'm hair inept lol! Anyhoo, rock on with your new hair self and enjoy because it totally looks great on you!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're so cute! You do look hot and sassy! ;) Haven't tried extensions but I must now... my hair is thin too. Way to rock the do!!!

ReplyDeleteyou ALWAYS look great. but i will say...i LOVE the extentions.

Hi Shelley,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog!! I have a similar hair problem and have been contemplating getting extensions as well. I ended up cutting my hair short instead and like it but still may end up with extensions down the road.
I have two questions:
1.) What kind of extensions did you get...and are there kinds to avoid?
and...
2.) What is the ballpark price range?
Thanks so much!!

You are the cutest ever! Please be my best friend!
ReplyDeleteOooh, sorry that sounded creepy. I really do think your hair is great, I'm going to consider the swoop bang for my thin locks too. Darn kids for ruining our hair!!
ReplyDeleteGreat hairdo but you know what? Your brows are awesome! Love your blog too.
ReplyDeleteI just have to say that you have the BEST smile ever! It's just so darn cute! Love the swoop bangs and the hair extensions look great :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!... just since your post I have had three friends talk about the idea of getting extensions... I have pointed them in your direction to see how wonderful yours are!
ReplyDeleteMaddie- the D.A.

Amen on why there aren't more hair blogs. I'm a TOTAL hair product junky.
ReplyDeleteSo, DOOOOOOO tell..........how do you keep your swoop bangs "swooped" and outta your eyes? I spend two years growing out my bangs. Biggest accomplishment of mah life, pathetically, but finally got them chopped off because I couldn't do anything but tuck them behind my eyes. Stylist cut my bangs too long and drove me insane! So, I'd love to know your secret and everyone else's with those cutie-patootie style bangs. Sigh...........
Love it! so glad you like your extensions i just started doing them a year ago in our boutique salon and its such a great feeling to see people so happy with the added fullness:}
ReplyDeleteI read this post the other day and today I just read an article in MORE magazine that said that diet soda contributes to thinning hair. I immediately thought of your post and thought I'd share the info. It also said that once you stop drinking diet soda, your hair will grow thicker than before....just wanted to share.
ReplyDeleteI love them, Shell! It's crazy to see the difference on something I wouldn't have thought much about. They look great!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I have really thin and fine hair too and and hate it!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first post on your blog but I've been following it for weeks! Your hair looks cute with extensions! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteHey! This is a great and awesome look. And What a blog i like it very much. I love the extension and I am using it for long time.....
ReplyDeleteHair Extensions
Do you still like the extensions? Have you taken them out? Is your hair damaged at all?
ReplyDeleteloved the video :) you really wouldn't have known you had extensions. i on the other hand have the worlds thickest and waviest/bushiest hair, so much that it takes like an hour to blow dry it and then i have to flat iron it!
ReplyDelete
