I'm ready to get working around here again.
I'm SO sick of these yucky snowy, cold days! And if you live in California or Arizona... I don't wanna hear it! I know, it's probably sunny, warm, and PERFECT spray painting weather :( ... lol
So, today I gave myself a swift kick in the pants.
Did a little project, that I've been meaning to get around to for a while.
I picked up these book ends at Salvation Army for $1.00 each, about 6 months ago,
and have a REALLY great purpose for them....NOT being book ends :)
But first, I needed to paint them.
To get started, I took off this...."flattened door hinge?" (lol, NO idea what I should call those)
and sprayed the rest of the piece with a few coats of flat white spray paint.
After they were dry, I flipped on my mouse sander, and distressed the edges a bit,
like so...
A coat of spray on poly, and they're done!
I'll hopefully be putting these up tonight, and be back with pictures of where they are making their debut, later on this week :)
After that was done, the girls and I headed to meet Cason for lunch, and took a quick trip to IKEA,
for some picture frames.
We've got plans.... BIG plans :)
Eeek! I'm so excited!
Cason headed back to work, and we girls, got our shop on :)
Which is never complete, without a trip to Hobby Lobby... am I wrong?
After a quick melt down, over a huge chunk of rock salt in our shoe...
(girls are SO dramatic)
We headed to my favorite section of the store...
and unfortunately my kids's too....
The KNOB ISLE!
I know, it's dangerous... kids, glass, Mom on a budget....
But I braved it, to snag some cute new pulls for my freshly painted sideboard.
Just look at all the choices!
It was SO hard to choose! I feel like whatever style of knob you place on a piece of furniture, it kind of "defines it"... ya know?
Who KNEW that such a small piece of hardware would be so important?
I'm looking forward to showing you the ones I finally chose :)
Since I was going home to a house that looked like a hurricane hit it, I thought it might make me feel better, if I washed my car, instead...
weird reasoning, I know... but it worked :)
So... this was another one of those...
"I'm not going to be getting the Mother of the Year Award" moments.
.
.
.
I thought it would be fun to take a picture of us all screaming in the car wash, because that's what we normally do, when the "loud water tunnel" comes...
Just NOW, while posting these pictures did I notice that not EVERYONE was
"into the scream" as much as others...
ughhh... awesome.
Today = Mothering, FAIL.
Lastly... A quick stop into Salvation Army.
SO HAPPY I stopped in, to scope out their new goods, because I found
THIS!!!!
Can you say $40.00 wreath from Target, for only $15 bucks!?!?
Oooooh, yeahhhh...
:)
It might have some falling off wood curls, but nothing a little hot glue couldn't fix.
I LOVE this wreath, and have had my eye on it, for-E.V.E.R!
It went down to $34.99 once, but I STILL couldn't justify spending the money.
And even $15.00 for Salvation Army is pretty steep, but I didn't want to miss the chance of waiting for it to get marked down, and then NOT be there, the next time... so I swiped it :)
With all of my shopping success today, I'm ready to get goin' on all these little unfinished projects!
Tomorrow:
* Finishing "book end" display
* Distressing the rest of my sideboard, spraying with poly, and adding knobs
&
* Cleaning the House
No really.
It's B.A.D!
told'ga.
.

ew. did I really just post a picture of my crumb, dust filled kitchen floor?
bleehk, sick!
If you feel the need to NEVER come back to this blog again, in fear of potentially getting completely grossed out, .... then I don't blame you. lol.
What a lovely day!! And hey, we're still pretty chilly here in Vegas!
ReplyDeletekisses

Oh, my word, your HobLob has WAAAAY more knobs to choose from than mine, so jealous!
ReplyDeleteWOW...that wreath...!!! Love it :) Here in Vegas we have a small version of Venice (The Venatian) but I will totally exchange it for your IKEA!!!!! I want one too near by!!!
ReplyDeleteSo much to love in this post!! We do not have Hobby Lobby here in MN, but I was in IL the weekend before last & made a special trip. I had to drag my sick best friend & 3 kids, so I missed that knob aisle entirely!!! Something to look forward to for next time, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI admire you SO much for posting pics of crumbs on the floor. Not only will it not keep me from coming back, it makes me like you even more!! =)
I thought your car wash story was so funny. My kids normally enjoy it, too, and last time I also thought I was hearing joyful screams from the back seat, and when I turned around when it suddenly sounded a little too panicky, I noticed one of the windows wasn't quite rolled up, so my 3 year old was scared of the water coming in. Great...
ReplyDeleteAnd I recognize that kitchen floor too by the way ;)
You crack me up :) I love that you keep it real-you made my day with the crumbs!

OK, first, why have I never seen the knob aisle in Hobby Lobby before? Note to self: Find a project that needs knobs and take a trip to Hobby Lobby.
ReplyDeleteAnd second, your messy floors keep it real. Just keep being honest. That is why we all love you so much!
Lucky Duck, I love that wreath! Thanks for keeping it real on the old blog.
ReplyDeleteAHHHH I love that wreath! I am way jealous, I have been eying that at Target as well. I love your honesty and pictures of your real life. It makes me realize you are not quite perfect, so maybe I can aspire to be like you someday. :)
ReplyDeleteOk, so , I live in AZ and I totally was outside spray painting today! Ha! We are actually a little chilly (in the 60s) so it was almost a little to cold to be out there! :) Ah well, everyone else gets the last laugh when we have 117 degree summers!
ReplyDeleteI love how completely honest and open you are about life as a REAL mom with REAL moments in this post. You are too cute and hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your messy house. It makes me feel so much better. You seem to have it so well put together and I wonder how you and other bloggers do it, keep up with a blog, keep up with crafts, take care of your children and hubbie, and keep your homes looking perfect. It's nice to know others can't keep it all together all of the time.
ReplyDeleteGah!!! Way to hold me in suspense! Meanie! ;)
ReplyDeleteU R a Crack up! Love that you are so real and fun. OK' I can hardly wait to see what you do with the pic. frames. Also, I am insanely jealous that you have a HOBBY LOBBY and its filled with those insanely cute knobs. I SO WANT some cute knobs and a Hobby Lobby. What a super fun outing drama or not. winks- jen
ReplyDeleteShelley! How are you girlie?? Cannot wait to see all these projects! I was wondering what salvation army do you go to girl? I have never been to one in UT!!
ReplyDeleteMEET VIRGINIA DESIGN
I moved to NJ from CA and I'm so totally jealous of their weather right now. And I'm also so jealous that I don't have a Hobby Lobby near me =( Seeing all those knobs made me giddy!
ReplyDeleteOk I have a great idea!!! Come to my house and help me with painting projects. It could be titled "shelly saving YOUR day" Plus Chels just painted a dresser and needs help with the finish., we keep saying we NEED Shelly! So get in your car and save the day ok ;) Oh and bring that new camera of yours. . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat? Are you following me around today??? I went to the Hob Lob drooled at the knobs as I am working on a project, but I didn't have a gift card so I have to wait on a sale AND I saw the same wreath and LOVE it but mine is way more beat up! Tried to figure out a way I could make it work but not gonna happen. Can't wait to see what you are up to!
ReplyDeleteI JUST gotta tell you.....THANK YOU for posting pictures of your house when it's not so perfect. SERIOUSLY. I'm a SAHM of 3 young kiddos, but am busy with lots of other things too. I'm addicted to blog reading, but as much as I love, love, love these blogs.... I always feel terrible at how bad my house looks, no matter what I do, when I see all these pictures of beautifully decorated and clean houses. So thank you! And I definitely won't mention that 75 degree weather we are having here in California! =) Love ya House of Smiths!!
ReplyDeleteI think there need to be more "crumbs on the floor" posts out there in blogland...I know that's what MY floor looks like more often than not...let's face it, most of us can either keep our house clean OR do projects. Not both. Thanks for keepin' it real.
ReplyDeleteOK. I live in Southern Cal. But don't be jealous... we DON'T have a Hobby Lobby. (So I guess we're even...?)
ReplyDeleteI do have that same crumb floor though. (But mine has dog hair on it too.)
First, I am totally jealous of that Target wreath! My goodwill (we don't have a salvation army store) has the junkiest junk, I think I might have a heart attack if I found something like that there. What a score! Second, my floor looks equally gross with crumbs right now so good for you for keeping it real! :)
ReplyDeleteLoved this day in your life!!! We scream "BUBBLES" when the soap sprays out in the car wash. FUN. Cannot wait to see your projects and dont worry, my floor looked just like yours until I cleaned today...glad Im not the only one that goes shopping when I should be at home cleaning. ;) Hugs from Texas, Tara
ReplyDeleteI'm coming bad ESPECIALLY b/c you are real and posted your dirt strewn floor and dirty house. I've had a house like that for a WEEK now and have been sick so it's just stayed like that day after day, sun up to bed time and as soon as I start to tackle it today, HELLO MIGRAINE! I think it's safe to say cleaning makes me sick! :) Here's to trying again tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteAwesome wreath! And I'm gonna guess maybe the bookends are corbels?? I can't wait to find out! And justifying a dirty house with a clean van TOTALLY makes sense!! :) Love it!
Oh yay! a messy house...you are human, LOL! Love your cute ideas and you continue to inspire and bless people with them! Have fun cleaning!
ReplyDeleteBLEK, my butt!! If that is B.A.D. to you, you don't ever want to come over to or see pictures of my house house when it looks like, as we like to call it, Baghdad!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you're doing with the book ends! I just know it's going to be AWESOME!!
I have a question for you. In your travels around town, have you ever seen old school lockers anywhere? I was thinking maybe Home Again, but I haven't been there enough to know whether she's ever had somethin' like that. If you have any ideas on where to find some, I'd love to hear them!!
I just have to say...I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!!! I love that you are always so honest with what you do and what your house looks like-because they all look like that! Thank you for always being honest and making us other moms feel normal:) and for always sharing your talents and giving us other "budget" people fun new ideas!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Your floor looks like mine! I can't miss even ONE day of sweeping or it looks horrible!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm a So Cal gal myself and I won't comment on our (ahem)...current weather, BUT I will say that a large part of me might just trade a few days of our weather for a HOBBY LOBBY!!! Oh my, I am so green with envy. I wish so bad HL would come to CA and create some well needed competition for Michaels!! Looking at that row of pulls/knobs makes me weep. Arrrrgggghhhhhh!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you have in store for the IKEA frames. Saw them last week and was just itching to start a project with them, but didn't know what to do!
Barbara
P.S. Don't feel bad about your floor. As I type, I can feel teeny crumbs stuck to my feet. EWWWW, my pet peeve, but perhaps I'll wait til tomorrow AM to sweep the floor!!! LOL
You don't know me, I am a blog stalker. I have been checking out your blog for the last few months and I love it! You have so many fun ideas! BUT, those last two pictures are the reason I keep coming back. Your honesty is AWESOME!! I can see that you are a great mom, homemaker, wife, etc.!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your mess! It makes me feel good to know that even Shelley from House of Smiths can have a messy house sometimes. Thanks!
ReplyDeletethanks for posting the picture of your floor! mine looks the same way right now! The other day the hubby said "we should buy a shop vac to suck up all the crap off the floor" bahahaha
ReplyDeleteIt may be good spray painting weather here in AZ, but don't worry, in just a few short months it will be perfect spray painting weather there in Utah, and perfect spray-paint-drying-before-it-hits-the-target-in-1,200-degrees weather here. For 6 months.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day!! I've been dying to do some spray painting! We need a warm day around here so I can get some projects done... so I can find new projects to do! My thrift store radar has been on high alert lately!
ReplyDeleteYou don't have sun or green like we do in SoCal, but you DO have Hobby Lobby! Tonight I guess we're both jealous =).
ReplyDeletei LOVE your blog! you seriously crack me up!!! thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know your house gets messy sometime too. And I think your girls look pretty happy there in the back seat so I wouldn't call it a failure. Can't wait to see what the bookends are for!
ReplyDeletewhy have I not seen the awesome knob section. I must go soon.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think it was possible for your house to even have a crumb on it...I was beginning to wonder if you were human.
Wondering what is the color of the turquoise table used....love!
ReplyDeleteAwesome find with that wreath! As soon as I saw the pic, I new it was a Target wreath. And I can't wait to see what knobs you picked! :)
ReplyDeleteHey, nice knobs! (hee,hee) I couldn't resist!
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I adore your posts. Your girls are so cute. I love hobby lobby...the knobs are so fun. I could spend hours looking at each one...and in Anthro, too!
ReplyDeleteWow I want to come shopping with you!!! Love all your major shopping scores!! Can't wait to see all your projects finished. I'm sure they will all be FABULOUS!!!!!!
ReplyDelete:)Rachel Berry
LOL! My house frequently looks like that. Only you need to add some dog foot prints, a few dinosaurs and a whole lot more dust. Ack.
ReplyDeleteOh, IKEA! I haven't been since just before Christmas. What's wrong with me? I think I should remedy this, don't you?
I love this pictures! Makes me feel much better! Normaly all those pictures look like you live in a "perfect" & clean house and when I look around here, I feel like I'm the only one not getting her house cleaned. ( Maybe I'm spending too much time reading your blog... !) Now I feel much better. Thank you!
ReplyDeletebtw ... over here in Germany it's cold and snowy as well ...
Awwwwwwwww!!!! Love all those gorgeous knobs at Hobby Lobby! I'm very jealous, as we don't have a Hobby Lobby here in Australia... and I can't think of anywhere over here that would stock such a large range of knobs! Love reading your blog and seeing what you get up to, you are very inspirational!
ReplyDeletexxx
haha Shelley you always crack me up..and uh, thanks for keeping it really real with your kitchen floor shot, lol. Whose floor doesn't look like that sometimes, if they are really honest? Mine sure does!
ReplyDeleteAnyway I really wanted to comment on those bins of knobs, OMG they are amazing, I would feel even more excited than a kid in a lolly shop if I was there. We have nothing like that in New Zealand :(
Looking forward to seeing your finished projects!
xx Karen
Im so GLAD you posted a pic of your crumb/dust filled kitchen floor! It makes me feel better knowing Im not the only ;) Since I left that sweet comment lol would you mind telling me where in the world do you find the flippen Salvation Army in SLC? I know there is one downtown but I got a little freaked the first time I pulled up to it and I had no idea where the entrance was! Any help would be greatly appreciated ;)
ReplyDeletejust in case ya need it - my blog is private so Im not sure if it will show up!
honey_erin@hotmail.com
I forgot .... can I guess what the bookends are for? I would use them to make a shelf of some sort!
ReplyDeleteWow, you had a productive day! I'm with ya, sometimes all it takes is a day away from it to get ya back in the swing of things. Headed to IKEA today!!
ReplyDeleteWow - that knob isle had me drooling - there's no Hobby Lobby here and our closest Ikea is a ferry ride away (3 hrs...) Looks like y'all had a great time and your bookends (but they look like they would make great door stops too) are just lovely!
ReplyDeleteCan I be your neighbor? You rock!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog...floor crumbs and all!
ReplyDeleteI have those square glass knobs from Hobby Lobby. I like the fact that they have 40% off of all knobs about every other week!
Ikea, Hobby Lobby, AND Salvation Army in one day? You are one productive shopper! I could easily spend an entire shopping day (not to mention my entire life savings) in each one of those places -- especially Ikea... serious weakness.
ReplyDeleteAnd can I just tell you that I *love* it when creative bloggers like you with beautiful homes and beautiful families and everything in the world going for them post pictures of their crumby floors and messy rooms? It reminds me that even with all the perfectly staged photos we're all human here and while I may not ever reach quite the level of talent and/or bloggy awesomeness as some of my favorite bloggers, I do like knowing I'm in good company in having to fit fun and creativity into real life and dirty floors. So, thank you for that!
I love everything about this post.
ReplyDeleteShopping, kids, car washes, dirty floors, etc.
LOVE IT!
Love your blog!!! Great decorating ideas, the humor and just how you keep it real on being a busy mom with kids! The last pictures are priceless, my house as well!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love posts like this! Sometimes in bloggyland things start to get that all too perfect presentation. It's nice to see someone else's fail (even though I don't think that's a fail!) and messes ;) Have a great day today!
ReplyDeleteOh and I swear you get the best thrift store finds, I never ever come close to any scores like that... ever!
That's It!!!! I am moving to a state with a Hobby Lobby. Since blogging I hear so many of you gals talk about Hobby Lobby. I have just been a little jealous....But you had to show pictures of that aisle with knobs. Are you freaking kidding me? $3.99 and that many to choose from? I didn't know it was that fabulous. Seriously, I am going to try to figure out how to get a Hobby Lobby in Connecticut...That is just outright crazy!
ReplyDeleteAt least I have an Ikea though...PHEW!! Then I'd really be jealous!
Take care,
Lisa
Your post are always so interesting! I wished I lived near Utah so I could meet you. I did not realize that other people acted crazy in the car wash. My three year old son begs to stop by the wash every time we pass it. I am so excited to see what you post tomorrow, crumbs and all!
ReplyDeleteOMG...I'm never coming back! Haha. Just kidding. Your home is just like any other home with busy parents and children. My hubby is deployed but I have to start getting things fixed up before he returns in a few weeks...it's hard when your kids undo everything you just did. Ha. Enjoy your day & don't be too hard on yourself. You seem to be a wonderfully wonderful momma. :)
ReplyDeleteFell outta my chair laughing at the scream. :)
ReplyDeleteCarmen and the Primcats
You made me smile this morning while catching up on blogging and having some coffee :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you are doing with the book ends..hurry please..ha.
I don't remember seeing a "knob" aisle at our Hobby Lobby..hmmm..I better get to checking this out asap! LOL.
Have a good day!
Beth
OMG - Hobby Lobby is the knob mecca!! WOW! I have no idea how you managed to narrow down the choice for your sideboard, but can't wait to see it all done :-) And I'm sensing art gallery wall with all those frames!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, my floors are covered with crumbs & dust AND furballs. I'm not a big fan of vacuuming ;-)
ok, I'm sitting at the edge of my seat waiting to see what you've got in store for those Ikea frames.....LOVE your blog, you always make me smile:)
ReplyDeleteIt makes my heart happy when you show the good, the bad & the ugly.....not only an awesome blogger, but a real mom too!
ReplyDeleteThanks
What a successful day! I loved the knobs from Hobby Lobby. Especially the turquoise ones! Cannot wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteI love a gal that will post a picture of her dirty home! And, I am so glad I'm not the only one who will schlep 3 kids (some sleeping) in the freezing cold for a Hobby Lobby run. :) Can't wait to see what you do with an entire trunkful of frames!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, appreciate you sharing your house looking like a mess once in a while! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try new knobs on something (not sure what) for a while. You may have just pushed me to take a trip to Hobby Lobby...
No! I am so glad you posted dirty kitchen floor pics! It makes me feel so relieved that I'm not the only one! And it just makes me like you that much more because now I know you're a real person! :) Your girls are adorable and I love it when you post about adveture with them, I'm due in August with our first, so it gets me giddy! Good luck cleaning!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! All the knobs!! Wish there was a Hobby Lobby in Australia now, they are so so espensive here and nothing like that!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do with all this especially the frames. I have a photo wall in mind too that I have yet to get to. Oh, and the dirty floor, we have the same in our house presently!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! I can't wait to see the completed sideboard with knobs!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I swear there is always enough stuff on the floor when I sweep (and I sweep EVERYDAY) to feed an army!
Thanks for keep'n it real!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day! I'm totally jealous of the Target wreath! And, btw, thanks for posting the pictures of your house. Its so nice to see someone keepin it real and reminding me that I'm not the only one! :) ok...instead of commenting on your fab blog, I need to go clean. Lol. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteHas your Hobby Lobby always had that HUGE selection of knobs? I'm pretty sure I've never seen those at mine & I'm totally jealous! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute!! Thanks for sharing that you are human b/c we have yet another snow day here in TX which means more kids to make more mess and all I want to do is make more of a mess by doing something fun and crafty!! I love not being the only one!!!
ReplyDeleteI recently discovered the knob aisle at Hobby Lobby-love it! Where is the Salvation Army store? I've seen a small one in the strip mall at 5600 S. and 900 E. in Salt Lake, but I haven't been there...is that it?
ReplyDeleteI love how transparent you are!! You absolutely crack me up!! I am totally with you when it comes to this weather! I am so sick of it! I'm so unmotivated to do anything! Major score on that Sal Val wreath! Its gorgeous!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for keeping it real! Loved it!
ReplyDeleteBookends as shelf supports??? IDK what you're doing, but I'm excited to see! LOVE HL and WISH we had an IKEA. I need frames, too.
ReplyDeleteI SOOOO appreciate seeing your last picture! It makes me feel better about my house when I see bloggers brave enough to post photos like this on their blog. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Your entire post just cracked me up!!! Love love love your blog! What an inspiration you are! Girl, you rock! Can't wait to see your new projects!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Especially the crumb laden floor. Looks like my house! I think it looks like everyone had spectacular fun...I think that counts as being a great mom!!
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! Your girls are so cute. Whenever I hit the east side of town I can't drive by with out stopping by HL. It's a must!! Just to see if they have anything new, or any good sales. lol
ReplyDeleteI LOVE when you post about shopping!!! It makes me feel like I'm with ya...seriously I didn't know that Hobby Lobby had a knob section like that..I love that turquoise one! I'm so there.
ReplyDeleteWait wait wait! Were those polka-dotted knobs I saw? Swoon! We may have nice warm (did I see it was going to be 80° today ? *snort* ) weather, but we also have no hobby lobby-therefore no knob aisle...which is the greater tragedy??
ReplyDeleteI stumbled on to your blog a couple of weeks ago & LOVE IT!!! I always look forward to what you are up to next. You do such fun, creative & simple projects. Are you for hire?!?! ; )
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what the bookends (although I already have an idea) turn out to be, the picture frames have peaked my interest (I have a picture frame obsession), and the knobs.....so fun!@
I'm so jealous you have an Ikea!
ReplyDeleteHow about this... I'll come stay with you and clean your house... just so I can join you on your Ikea trips! ;P hah!
On a serious note: I am dying to see what you've managed to do w/ those bookends! You're such an inspiration!
Are you kidding? I, for one, love it when people keep it real. It's nice to know your house isn't always perfect. It makes me feel like less of a failure and more just normal!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE that wreath!
you seriously are way too cute how you post stuff. BUT I am glad to see that your house has chaos just like everyone else.I drool on most days looking at how clean your house is, glad to see it's not always so. I think I need to have to stop by my house when you visit AZ to do a makeover , you find the cutest stuff at your goodwill, I never seem to be that lucky. thanks for making me smile......
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shopping day! IKEA, Hobby Lobby and a score at the Salvation Army ~Wow! So you must live in Northern Utah to make it to Hobby Lobby or is there one more south? I'm so excited to now live by one in Vegas!!! and I have to say my messy house beats yours by a long shot, just moved in and it's only day three, boxes and stuff everywhere!! (not to mention the grossness of the place before we moved in (former bachelor pad))~ yuck.
ReplyDelete...my kitchen floor looked like that yesterday too! But I took a day to get things done and now it is clean!
ReplyDeleteI also found a perfect home for my "love birds" vinyl inside of an old frame I sprayed white! Love it!
Many things to say...first I'm thinking those bookends are going to end up being little shelves which is a fantastic idea. I can't believe I haven't thought of it before now. I will never look at bookends the same again. Second, that was alot of frames girly. I'm anxious to see them make their debut. Third, your Hobby Lobby rocks on the knob selection. Mine is always totally picked over. I don't know what you picked, but I am liking the blue ones with the silver edges. Finally...(I'm usually not this long winded) bless you for posting your house in all its lived in glory. We are on our 3rd snow day and mine is in pretty much the same shape. It makes me feel so much better to see that others have the same problem! I love your house and i love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteI do live in wonderful sunny California but Utah totally makes up for their weather in the shopping department. I would love to have a Hobby Lobby and all the other great stores you mention here on your fab blog. Those knobs were all heavenly! Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeves..I'm sure it will be great!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know that I nominated your blog for the versatile blogger award! Please let me know if you accept, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteKaitlyn @ The Birds Nest

It is such a relief to see someone being real on their blog :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! I didn't even realize Hobby Lobby HAD all those drawer pulls (i've only been in that store like 3 million times...and still so much more to see!). You are right, now trip out shopping is ocmplete withou a stop there! I'm looking for pulls for a dresser I just re-did so I'll be heading to HobLob today to check it out!
ReplyDeleteWanna hear something really bad? My house gets like that from time to time (or maybe more often, but who's counting) and I don't even have kids (and my husband is really neat so I"m not sure what happens....tornado maybe??)!
I'm loving today's blog (but I love all of your blogs :)!!! Thank you for sharing your "imperfections", there are somedays we just can't be the perfect Mom or housekeeper :)
ReplyDeleteI really need to check out Hobby Lobby's knob isle. It's not what I head to when I go there.
Have a marvelous day!
Can't wait to see what you do with all this stuff.
ReplyDeletefun post! felt like i was running fun errands with you.
ReplyDeletei totally feel you on the "too cold to spray paint" vibe. my poor cans of heirloom white think i have abandoned them FOREVER! and i live in louisiana! :( here's to thinking of sunny,-warm-spray-painting-kind-of-days. :)
ReplyDeleteWHAT? There is a whole KNOB isle at Hobby Lobby. Oh how I wish there was one close to where we live. Never been to one! Maybe it's a good thing :) Love the book ends by the way!
ReplyDeleteJust like to say: THANK YOU FOR THE CRUMBS! I've been guilt-ridden for a while now, because I have not had the energy to clean the house (6 months pregnant can do that to one). And it is so good to see that I'm not alone. And yes, this post did prompt me to get up and clean the livingroom and dining room floors. Finally.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm really curious about the IKEA frames. I have a little wall collage that I'm working on, but we can only afford to buy one frame each time I go there. ;o)
Thank you for posting your floor and house that needs cleaning. Your other pics are so great and I wish I could have a house like yours, but with my three kids I can't seem to keep up with them. So my house always looks trashed. So thanks for showing me yours;)
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness all those knobs!!! It might be sunny here in CA, but we don't have Hobby Lobby! :(
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do w/ the bookends! I have some old hand me downs in my garage right now that I might need to copy you w/!! lol
Fun to read this - sounds like my life. I have a painting project in the garage, dying to finish it! Need to pick up my messy house (I have 3 kids also) and I want to check out that camera! Love your wreath too, great find!
ReplyDeleteThat carwash picture is hilarious!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to know that my house is not the only one. And that I'm not three only mom that says "shopping today, cause the cleaning can get done tomorrow!"
ReplyDeleteThanks
omg I absolutely LOVE that wreath too, and like you, I keep WAITING for it to get marked down- seriously, $40??? ugh! It is the coolest wreath EVER :) Glad you found that treasure! And I will tell you I am in CA but I would trade my sunny weather for that Hobby Lobby ANY day! Lucky!! :)

I know you don't 'know' me cause I NEVER comment! But I blog stalk you and I so wanta be just like you when I grow up!
ReplyDeleteYour Hobby Lobby knob section is awesome! I really want to spray paint but it is below zero so I have to wait (probably til spring). Hubby got mad when I spary painted in the bathroom. heehee We are planning a trip to Ikea in the spring, the closest one is 5 hours away. I completely understand the dirty floors, little kids = dirty floors. Have a great productive filled day!
ReplyDeleteEveryone's house is a mess I'm sure since we are all cooped up! Quick question: I've seen these knobs a million times at hobby lobby but something I don't understand is how to get the excess screw part off that would just be sticking out. Does that make sense? We are getting a dresser to redo and I want cute knobs from there, but just don't know how I would get the excess off. Any recommendations?
ReplyDeleteThat's alotta frames! I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve. :) Can you believe I've NEVER bought any knobs at Hobby Lobby??!! Someday I will. :) My house is a mess too. I can't seem to get it cleaned up. I clean a little and then have to be somewhere and then it gets all messed up again before I have a chance to continue. *sigh* And I, too, am ready for spring. I have even been spray painting a few things in the basement, one at a time when the kids are at school so no one gets gassed out. hehe
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the pictures of an unstaged house it makes me feel better about my own! Because mine looks like this too! LOL Thanks for sharing all your goodies!
ReplyDeleteI loooove those book ends :) They would work great as corbels on a wide doorway (minus the door), dontcha think??? I've been looking for corbels for exactly that, and can't find any that aren't like 40 bucks. I'm totally in envy over yours :) and what a steal.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad a friend directed me to your blog! I love it! Your posts crack me up and your projects are awesome! As a new blogger you have definitely inspired me!! :o)
ReplyDeleteWell, I pretty much HAD to click on this post b/c it listed 3 of my favorite places in the title. ;) Can't believe your awesome wreath score--fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteJust to take the pressure of you - you CANNOT win Mother of the Year Award. Well, for 2011 anyways. My mother in law, Sally just won the title for Utah (for real) last Saturday. Crazy, right?
ReplyDeleteSo relax...if they award is taken, no need to worry about it!
Finally, a wood floor I recognize. Now, I know who you remind me of.. Kristin Chenoweth!
ReplyDeleteLove the HobbLobb~ laura@imnotatrophywife.com
What a TEASER! I can't believe you just left me hangin' with all those ideas! That and I am TOTALLY jealous b/c we don't have a Hobby Lobby here. PLUS...its kinda crummy weather here too. no snow...but its still freezing over at night so no spray painting in the near future.
ReplyDeleteAs far as your finishing paragraph...let me just say that I love you that much MORE now b/c my house looks JUST as bad! You keep things REAL and make me feel like less of a failure as a sahm. THANKS GIRL! =)
I'm so blessed to have a Hobby lobby near by. I was curious and stopped in at Anthropologie to see what they had. A great place to look for ideas, but way out of my budget. I was glad to see that I could get the same kinds of knobs at HL on sale at 1/3 of the price. Looks like your favorite haunts are the same as mine. I can't wait to see what you have in store for all of those frames!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you are up to. I LOVE those blue glass flower knobs, I have to stay away from that aisle as I have no control..
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry about the crumb pics scaring me away, notice I try not to have wide shot pics posted on my blog!!
You got some great shopping done, and you made my day...the crumbs and all. I am NORMAL!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Debbie
i love the knob picture...so makes me want to go shopping...and I will come back just BECAUSE you posted the pic of your crumbs...everyones got crumbs the real mommas post pictures ;)
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! Love reading your blog! You keep it real! Glad my house is not the only one that gets messy now and then! :)
ReplyDeleteOh gosh Shelley! I have that exact wreath... I got it from Salvation Army too.... last year.... for I won't tell you how much cause it might make you cry. It's super cute!
ReplyDeletei love you ever so much more after this post than before! i love your style and ideas and that your house gets a mess, you feed your girls donuts, and that you sling a kid over your arms to pee in the walmart parking lot! sounds a lot like me but in florida!
ReplyDeletewe heart the knob aisle too! love your post.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all thank you for complaining about the weather... I'm stuck in a deep freeze too (Iowa) and it's so nice to hear other people who are SICK of it, instead of people who are telling me how they are swimming in their outdoor pool in February.
ReplyDeleteSecond can't wait to see what you have in store for those bookends and picture frames, my mind is spinning :-)
Lastly, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for showing us your house in all it's crumb filled glory...NOW I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE.
Have a great day, and try to stay toasty. I promise spring is right around the corner :-)
I may be in California with great weather, but I envy you for your hobby lobby! Looking at the knob isle made me envious (especially since we just bought our first house and we are in the middle of renovations!). Thanks for showing us your mess too!!!
ReplyDeleteThe best thing you could ever do for a friend is invite her to your house when it's messy!!! We ALL feel such pressure to keep immaculate houses, and feel like everyone EXCEPT for us succeeds at it! Thanks for the reminder that people are just like me...even my favorite blogger! =)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and your beautiful home! I've been reading for awhile now, and wishing I could be as amazing as you, and I can't even tell you how much better it makes me to feel to know that sometimes your house gets dirty too(but you're still amazing). Thanks for all the great ideas!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to know that AWESOME ladies like you have days like me. :) BTW, Hobby Lobby does not make you pay for things your kids break. :)
ReplyDeleteNice to see an unstaged pic...although your home is lovely all the time!...Thanks for taking us on your shopping trip....looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Hobby Lobby's in Canada, but for our march break we are going to Florida, I'm going to have to track one down. I too love pretty knobs!
I am so thankful to see your house...thank you for being honest and for making all of us feel so much better. Jerod and I started a project last week and it is taking longer than expected - which would be fine except that it meant moving out of our bedroom and closet so there are mattresses, clothes, shoes, socks, you name in every room downstairs. Thankfully we are leaving town this weekend so we can ignore it a few more days. Can't wait to see your book end remodel. I just recently found your blog and I am in love with your projects. I have been a closet painter /crafter for a couple of years and I am gearing up to come out into the public...so thanks for all your inspiration .
ReplyDeleteElaine
don't you just LOVE hobby lobby? and my house looks just like that...so...i can RELATE! but instead of cleaning..i'm blogging! HA! :)
ReplyDeleteseeing your house messy made my day... it is good to know you're human too! :)
ReplyDeleteI love taking things and transforming them. And omg thats alot of picture frames... granted I should not talk I have SOOOO many of them.

ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I've been reading it for a month or two now and it always makes me happy. :D You posting pictures of your messy house just makes me feel that much better because mine looks JUST like that right now...except with dog hair, not crumbs. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this post! sounds like a perfect day!!! I can't wait to see what you do with those book ends. . . I'm guessing a shelf? Oh, and that wreath is to die for. I've been watching it at Tarjay too . . . what a steal you found!
ReplyDeleteI love the way the children are involved in your projects. Enjoyable read that made me smile this morning. Thanks for letting me visit.

Wow that looks like my house the majority of the time. We just started cleaning the house because we're having a birthday party on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteOH my goodness...my first time to your blog (thank you Sweet Craft Cakes) and I'm hooked. I'm on the edge of my seat for the frame project. I need a KNOB ISLE! No Hobby Lobby here in California (it's only 39 degrees right now!) AND...so happy my house isn't the only one "lived" in! NOTE: I'm an empty nester - no excuse! Thanks for sharing your life and creativity.
ReplyDeleteI saw that wreath just the other day at Target. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, then had to turn around and go back. Beautiful. I didn't get it because the two they had were falling apart and not on sale. Very nice! I also love the picture of the messy house compared to the perfect picture of it on the sidebar! :) gotta love honesty! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI have just come across your site and am in love! I'm your newest follower :)
I too can't get enough Hobby Lobby. The woman at the check out counter even said to me, "Wow, you're here a lot!" Hahahaha!
Also, I wanted to pass the Versatile Blogger Award on to you! If you'd like to accept, you can visit my post for the award rules here: http://westermanfam.blogspot.com/2011/02/award.html

ReplyDeleteJen
I am absolutely dying of jealousy right now!!! I wanted that Target wreath so badly. They had a red one too that I just drooled over. But no way did I want to pay $40 for it, what a great find!!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved your post. Your kiddo's are going to remember these days more than the house being clean. I loved the pics of you all screaming in the car wash. I think I will start this tradition also. Thanks for posting REAL LIFE stuff.
ReplyDeleteBetz
I just wanna say THANK YOU! For being so real! Your home is beautiful...crumbs and all!!! It's just refreshing to know our homes don't always look like our bloggy pictures! That makes me want to come back and visit that much more!!!! =)
ReplyDeleteI did not realize hobby lobby had a knob section, i would probably get overwhelmed, but I'll have to check it out. We all like to see messy homes b/c we know ours is just like that;)
ReplyDeleteOh....my house looks like this everyday, except throw in some fur because my dog is forever shedding!
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you...on your counter in the last pic it looks like there are 2 fabulous lampshades under all that vinyl?? Where are they from? :) Love your blog!!
