Living Room Vlogging

Okay... so I might lose a couple of you on this post, but you HAVE been asking for it! lol

You may have seen on facebook,  that I FINALLY found my little video recorder
(stashed in a SHOE under one of the twins beds! ... no kidding) that had our
"couch shopping experience" documented on it and I thought to myself ...
"Self?  Why not just do a VIDEO blog post on this couch journey of ours?"
So I decided, instead of just typing it all, for you to read... I would VLOG it! :)

Here it is! (please excuse the lighting) ... you might want to get comfy.
(and turn up your volume, for some reason it's really quite...grrr, sorry!  We're lookin' into a new, better handheld camera)
All 12 minutes of me rabbling on about stuff ... and of COURSE a music montage at the end ...
because NO video from me, would be complete without one :)

Hmmm... if for some reason the video looks pixelated, you might have click on that YouTube
button and watch it there... sorry!
.
.
.
Okay... are you still there? ha!
Yes... I spelled "THANK" wrong at the end.  I know.  But I wasn't going to upload that sucker again, so just pretend it's spelled right... m-kay?

Here are some additional pictures of our living room, thus far.

THE Couch...
which is the PB Comfort Square Grand, slipcovered in ...
I'm gonna say Cream Twill?
It's not super WHITE... but it's not too creamy either.

Coffee Table...
I just changed out the hardware, to these cute cream knobs I picked up at Hobby Lobby, to give the table some more personality.

These are the pillow inserts I bought at IKEA for about $30 for all of them.
I will be "dressing them" with some fabric soon.

Maybe this fabric I got at a garage sale? ... Dunno, we'll see.
This is the idea of what I want the pillow set-up to be.
Looks a lot more "comfy" with big plush pillows, eh?
Ooo, I love me some pillows! :)
The yellow striped ones are from Pottery Barn, they were on clearance.

Here's the Zebra rug, in it's entirety, from Home Fabrics.
I love the darker color stripe.  It adds just enough warmth.

This is that sideboard I was telling you all about.
Doesn't it have great details?
It was in a little worse shape then I thought, so my Dad had to do some sanding and such, but it's got it's first coat of primer, and is looking something like...

This!
picture courtesy of my Dad's phone :) ... Thanks Dad!

I'm thinking of leaving the original hinges, they are just a dark brown color.
But replacing the knobs with some fun ones from Anthropology.
These are my top 3.
Mercury Glass Melon KnobArthurian Knob, RoundBubbled Glass Knob

Currently our piano, that WAS in our living room, is waiting to go downstairs.
Till then... it's living in our bedroom.
Since Cason's the only one who plays it, it's fair to be on HIS side of the bed, right?... hee hee
I'm having a hard time justifying putting it downstairs, till we can repaint.
But again... who knows when THAT will be? lol.
On that note... can I just mention that this photo is totally our inspiration for the wall treatment, that we'll be doing down in our basement? :)
loooove it!

WHEW...okay!
Well, as you can see, I've got quite a bit more to do, and in RETURN a LOT more to share!

I'm excited to see how everything comes together in the end...whenever THAT is :)

Oh!  PS.  Here's a link to Kami's blog, where you can find all those awesome Vlogging tips!

  1. All of the changes are so pretty! I like your top three knobs choices too. I have the mercury glass knobs in the first photo on a media stand and they are quite delicate. I'm constantly worried my little one is going to squeeze them or pull on them too hard and break them. Just food for thought =)

  2. Even with the primer the sideboard looks awesome! It brings out the details that aren't as visible with it just wood.

  3. I love everything about your room!! Love the turquoise table and the wall behind you in the video.

  4. Shelley, it looks absolutely fabulous! I know you are so thrilled to finally have that room start coming together! I hated trying to find living room furniture! And I love that last knob (bluish one) for your sideboard. Great job! Now enjoy that room!

  5. Hi! I'm a new follower so I may have missed the answer to this question, but ... I have never coveted anything like I am your bedspread. Holy schmolies that's the cutest most perfect bedding I've ever loved, and I can only see a corner of it. Green & Damask must be my two most favorite things in all the world. Please tell me where I can get it ... and that it's on clearance somewhere for a dime! :) That is assuming you don't mind if we have matching beds...

    ReplyDelete
  22. So cute! And I loved the "vlog"! Lol, it's like your sitting there talking to me (Or maybe I was totally picturing myself sitting in your living room instead of mine! We desperately need to replace Grandma's nasty old couches...). And your zebra earrings are so sassy! Loved it all! So excited for you that it's coming together how you pictured it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. That was flippin' awesome! Very, very nice blog post! So, I was wondering... are you worried about your white couch getting dirty???

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh my gosh, I love your room. Yay, I finally get to see your couch. It's perfect! I love the chairs from Wal-Mart too. I look at them everytime I go there. Love the rug too! Love it all! Great job on the vlogging and I loved the music.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So CUTE SHELLEY! I could never VLOG!! Love the sofa! The room is really coming together! So exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh Shelley..... I took notes during your video so I would know what I wanted to comment on... yep, total dork here. Okay this is what I have:

Your hair always looks so cute! I know we have talked about hair before, but I have to tell you! Okay so I have super fine hair too and I bought the new John Frieda volume mouse and hairspray and it is working out very well! The Big Sexy Hair Root Pump Plus just wasn't cuttin it.

DownEast has a furniture/clothing store in Washington UT that is big and wonderful. I haven't bought any house stuff from there but this summer you can bet your butt I will! :)

I didn't know K-Mart has Country Living stuff! The K-Mart in St. George is nothing like the ones in SLC. Isn't it odd that Cedar doesn't have a K-Mart? We used to, but like most stores they have all packed up and gone home.

Cason had the biggest smile when he found that Pottery Barn tag on the couch! And that coffee table is awesome! All in all you did very very great!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Your room is just beautiful!! The side table redo, gorgeous! Everything is so perfect, you did a wonderful job, it is all coming together so wonderfully! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. First I have to admit that I didn't have time to watch the video (blog surfing in a hurry today..) so if you answered this question on the video, my apologies. You living room is looking fantastic...and I wanted to know if the two armchairs are from the KMart Country Living line? I've been eyeing them, and I wondered, if those are from that line, do you like them?

    xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your living room really looks nice. I have the same problem with PB, it is all just too expensive. My husband gets upset when I look at their catalog too much. LOVE the two chairs!!! they are great, and will look fab. with the sideboard. What a great dad. Thanks for that great post I enjoyed it fully.

  34. Love it! What a beautiful room! I love that you said you're not sure what your "style" is.... I am was having a small melt down about having the same issue of "not sure what my style is" with my home-- basically I know what I like but its not all the same "style". I Love how your room turned out! I am so excited for you.
p.s. usually i am not a leave a comment kinda girl but your video was super cute, so i felt a comment was a must! You have such a fun blog!

  35. Cute video! We used to live in Utah and LOVED downeast! Infact we stopped there on our visit during Christmas and I found a china hutch to die for (I want one for my craft room). I love the couch, what a deal!
Oh, I painted a basement wall with the horizontal stripes and I always get compliments on it. There is something very friendly about stripes. Here is a link if you want to see it.

  37. I'm a relatively new reader to your blog, ever since your pantry make over was featured! I was so inspired, but have to admit, am yet to do it. It's on my loooooong list of to do things. Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hello and thanks for the inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  38. And, thanks for the tutorial on showing how to edit your profile! Had no idea

    ReplyDelete
  39. I like you ;-) Thanks for being an inspiration! I am on the verge of a full house revamp so when I found your blog it was like I was reading my own words, so many ideas that were floating in my head plus some. The journey may be long, and messy but I'm up for the challenge. Here's to a "new" house in 2011. Your style is classy, inviting, and comfortable and I love it! Keep on keepin' on ;-)

  40. Great Vlog! One quick question, what was the name of the store that you got your couch...down east? Wanted to check to see if there is one in the Chicagoland area. Thanks so much!

  45. Just a little question, I tried to purchase some frosted vinyl today using your code "smiths" but there was no discount. There is info about purchasing the silhouette package but no 25% off the premium vinyl. Did I miss a step? Thank you!! I am loving your blog!

  49. Your living room looks beautiful! I just used those mercury glass knobs from anthropologie on my vanity/nightstand in my bedroom (http://marthahasminions.blogspot.com/2010/12/nightstandvanity.html). They are beautiful! You should definitely pick those ones!I had a little less trouble finding a couch, but I have been carrying around this coral fabric for hmm.. 2 1/2 years to use as an accent in my living room. I FINALLY found the right fabric to match it. Phew! Now my family can stop making fun of me. It's just hard when you've dreamed up what you want and no one seems to make it for the price you want to pay!!!

  50. hi! i just found your blog.....and i LOVE it! :) your video was great...you're so cute :) i'm so happy you found such a great deal on your sofa....we have the white ikea couches :)

p.s. we put the 1st anthro cabinet pulls you showed (mercury glass) in our laundry room. i do NOT recommend them.... :( :( they are super duper fragile, they're hollow, you can't pull too hard or they'll break in your hand. its such a bummer because they are SO cute. but as they continue to break i'll be replacing them with a ceramic or solid glass. k, that wasn't really a p.s.

    love your blog! :)

  63. Things are coming together so beautifully!! You've really got an eye for home design, and I totally appreciate your witty humor along the way. You most definitely get a chuckle out of me when I read your posts, so thanks for that!

On a different note...I wanted to let you know (and make sure it's ok) that I put a link to your "hanging rose ball tutorial" on my blog. I had made a paper rose wreath and posted about it, so I just wanted to make sure credit was given where it was due. Out of respect for your creativity, I just wanted to let you know. ReplyDelete
  71. I love tge zebra rug. Everytime I go to home fabrics I pretend I'm taking it home with me. I noticed your beautiful curtains with big grommets...I bought some beautiful houndstooth from our wonderful aforementioned store and want to make grommetted curtains. Any tips or sites you can direct me to so I can have similarly clean-lined Curtains?

  72. O.M.G! Haha LOVE IT!! The room looks it was meant to be in a catalog! I had no IDEA that there was a DownEast furniture store! What!?! All we have in AZ is the clothing store. I have my eye on a PB couch as well. My husband wants the sectional w/ the chaise.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I was wondering where you got those cute topiaries from? I'm hoping a store that is nationwide. Thanks for the inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  82. You know how unfair it is to post about Down East to all of us who don't live in Utah (anymore) and don't have Down East, right? I shopped Down East for GAP stuff while at BYU in the 90's and wish I could have invested in furniture then. Gah.....this is so not fair!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. You have such an EYE for furniture! I'm always amazed how some one like you can pick up a piece that looks...well junky to me...and turn it into a work of art! I'm still developing that eye, to say the least. Any tricks of the trade in what to look for??? And your PAINTING YOU PIANO?!? Can't WAIT to see that!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Goodness Girl, that looked like a whole lot of work, but so entirely worth it. You are so beautiful! Your smile just lights and your eyes sparkle. (sounding like a blog crush there, sorry, but sincere) :) Keep working away, it's paying off, your home is lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  85. So...I may have found your exact coffee table (also at downeast via ksl.com). I was hoping you could give me so e advice about possibly giving it a different look. Do you think I would need to sand it down and prime and paint or could I just spray paint the existing table without doing anything?your house is amazing and there are so many things that are so inspiring to me...thanks for sharing!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Where did you get the flowers in the pot on our coffee table? I would love just exactly like them?
