Cleaning out the Garage

It's sunny today! WHOO-hoo!
We've had over 4 straight days of  RAIN this week so we're glad to see a clearing, even if we ARE expecting thunder storms again on Monday. ha!
(I can't complain.  Rain is awesome for our grass!)

Anywho, we decided to tidy up the garage, and get things organized for this summer the best we could, so that we could start in again on some big projects, that we need to refocus on.
About 6 months ago we had BIG plans for this garage.  We were going to have shelves built, a tool center, bike storage....
...And then life happened. ha!  and we ran out of $$$ and nice weather.  We still have plans to do all of those great things, but this summer we're going to focus MOSTLY on getting our master bathroom and bedroom totally finished.  I don't know about you'all, but I can't even THINK about starting a project, if my house isn't totally clean, and the tools and supplies that I'm planning on using aren't in their proper places.  It drives me NUTS when I have to stop what I'm doing to hunt down paint rollers, putty knives, or extension cords.
So that being said.  This may not be the MOST efficient or aesthetically pleasing way to display and store everything... but it has it's own rhyme or reason, and for the most part, all that matters to ME, is that it's clean, organized, and ready to use!

Project Pile:
All of these pieces are waiting to be refinished.  They WILL serve a purpose... one day. ha!

Storage boxes, and such, that will eventually go UP on shelves, that we'll build up above.
PS.  Are you ready for a weird, random fact about Cason?
See the blue box, and the white box?  Well, they are full of old vintage wigs and hats that Cason has collected, since high school.  Don't ask.  He thinks they are awesome! lol.

Our boob light collection. hee hee.  We need to sell those babies on KSL.

The old TV cabinet, turned paint station.  :)

So... what are you working on today!?

  1. I definitely need to get to the garage, too. It's always the last place you'd organize when really you see it everyday! Today I'm working on a dresser - my first attempt at painting and distressing. Hoping for positive results!

  2. I'm so relieved I'm not the only one who calls them "boob lights"! Because they totally are! I have a cabinet I bought at a rummage sale last week for 10 bucks that needs to be sanded and painted before hubby gets home tomorrow!

  3. Okay the "boob light" comment. I thought I was the only one who noticed the builder grade lights looked like "bubbies." We also finally have some sun (until Monday). I need to get outside and then off to U2 concert tonight!!
    thanks for the giggle

  4. How funny! We're organizing our garage, too. Our inside needs lots of decorating work so my strategy is to get the garage in order so I can temporarily relocate stuff out there. You've motivated me to make our house a home!! Decorating is not a super power I posses... Let the journey begin!!

  5. Hahaha...we have the Boob lights too! When we buy a house, those will never be allowed :) Thunderstorms here too...LOVE IT. Happy weekend to you.

  6. working on laundry wishing my garage even looked half that clean.

  7. I'm cleaning out my garage too! We just have "stuff" thrown everywhere. I'm normally a neat freak, but with every kid I have...the less neat I get. I can't stand my husbands side of the garage because he saves every single screw, washer, nail, you name it. If I could organize his tool chest, I would in a heartbeat! Better get back at it! Hope you have a great weekend.

  8. Today was the first day we've seen the sun since a whole week ago! Oh my word! I did a little garage cleaning too but I couldn't do too much cause the hubster is at work. I hate when he works on Saturdays...uggh!

  10. As soon as hubby gets home we'll be working on the garage too. Sigh, freshly pregnant and garage cleaning.. not the best idea lol.

Hoping to get a ton organized and then more in a to go pile.

  11. I'm working on my vintage wig and hat collection, because that is cool!!! I have an obsession with hats, it might be a problem, but I choose to be okay with it, LOL

  12. Love your organized garage! You inspired me! I can't even watch TV, let alone do a project if the house is a mess. It is visual noise yelling at me. Sadly, cleaning the house is my only project today. . .

  13. Even better... when you are in Lowes and pass the lighting section and your kids all shout BOOB-LIGHTS!!!

Our garge is also due for an overhaul.. I am renting a POD for the side driveaway by the garage so we can move out all the garage stuff, and then build new storage over the course of a month... at least that is the plan :)

  15. I was in the garage today too, sorting through literally 5 garbage sacks full of clothes. I love that you call those lights "boob lights" too!

  16. OK, seriously...I thought I was crazy! Everytime I would see one of those lights I would think of a boob...my dh thought I was NUTS!!!! So glad I'm not the only one...;)

  18. yay I'm not the only one to call them boob lights! I need to get to cleaning too! :)

  19. Love the paint cabinet! Luke cleaned the garage today too. I offered to help but he chose to play basketball during the only time I could help. So he did it all on his own. Which I don't feel too bad about since really the only thing in there is my bike. I am with you. I need things organized and clean before I can tackle projects.

  20. Call me weird but I love a good clean up day. We planted our garden and next weekend we will tackle the garage. The garage is our dumping station of our home..hate that. It usually takes only a couple of hours to get it organized again but then it turns into a mess quickly too. UGH! How would it be to have a ultra organized garage with tons of cabinets with spaces for everything...but working on the inside of the home is so much more rewarding isn't it?

  21. Our garage isn't all that spacious...in fact, if we can get both cars in there, it takes some fancy moves to get ourselves and the kids actually in and out of the vehicle. But last summer, my hubby built a very plain shelf out of unfinished lumber that holds a ton of stuff through the winter -- everything from the half dozen strollers we've collected to summer tires and recycling bins. LOVE it!

That said, today was all about prepping the veggie garden and washing out the kiddy pool for the boys.

  22. I love your project pile, I've got one too, looks just like yours!

  23. Strangely, I'm also working on my garage. Er, uh, worked on it. Your mess is NOTHING compared to mine. I have 2 years of yard sale and estate sale finds in mine, plus a few boxes leftover from when we moved 3 years ago and all my holiday decorations that need to be sorted through. Well, those are mostly done, so now it's just the other things! Good job getting yours worked on. I have another day or so before mine is finished.

  24. first off...SHOW US THE WIGS! I need your boob...lights. we have old ghetto ones and I would be happy for the boobs...! okay maybe I just wanted to say boob lights. boob. lol

  25. That is so funny!!! We are working on much the same (okay maybe more the Hubs than me) but it needs to done!!! A good decrapification going on this weekend :D

  26. I halfway attacked my garage yesterday. We bought a really neat broom that makes sweeping fun....weird, huh? So my walls are the same unfinished type you have. Do you have any plans to finish and paint yours? I really want to do mine but not really sure it would be worth it.

  27. I can't believe you call them "boob lights"...SO DO I!!!! We put them in our upstairs hallway when we built the house....BIG mistake! There are 2 right next to each other and they totally look like boobs! My husband wanted to do recessed lights up there and I was too busy with 2 little kids and all the other home building decisions to listen...so we have boobs. Someday I hope they will be sitting in my garage too! :)

  28. my husband said that I was the only one who would think they were boob lights! Thats all I see when I look at them and have refused to keep them. I am glad I am not the only "perv" (thanks hubby) that has a garage sale pile of boob lights! Thanks for keeping it real!

  29. Laughing at the "Boob" lights. We call them the same thing... (there is an inside joke between me, the hubby and home depot.)

  30. Love the big black frame! I've been looking for one like that! Where did you get it?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love your paint station! I can't start a project unless the house is in order. And then when we get about half way done I'm like, "time out! I've got to clean, this is a mad house and I can't take it."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh my gosh! Ladies, SO SO happy that husband and I aren't alone with our cheapo 'boobie' lights! I referred to them as this before and some of our friends are like 'what did you just call them?!" Come on people, let's just call a spade a spade! haha

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love the boob lights too! I have them as well. I didn't think anyone else thought about them as boobs.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ha! we sold our boob light collection last summer at a yard sale. One lady came and bought them all!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Haha! I am SO GLAD to know I'm not the only one to think that type of light looks like certain anatomy! Haa!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Woman I am so glad someone else calls them boob lights!! People always stare at me funny.

  37. Do you have problems with storing your paint in the garage? We are in Utah too and have problems with the paint that we store there getting a funky texture. So it unfortunately takes up way too much room in my house.

  38. So funny on the boob lights thing. One day I was sitting on the couch while pumping one evening and was looking at our ceiling lights when I noticed they looked like boobs. LOL. And even better was that in the same room area, there were two completely different styles. So I made a joke about it to my husband and he thought I was nuts. LOL!

  39. The "boob light" comment made me spurt my ginger ale through my nose. We just moved into our home and late one night while watching TV my hubby turns to me and says "You know those lights look like BOOOOBs!"
They are so being replaced once I find something else I like!

  40. I want your boobs....lights! :0. We have the ugly brass ones that I loathe and detest and I would love yours till I can do something else. Wanna skip the whole KSL thing? :)

  41. I love your tv cabinet ... that's a pretty fancy paint cabinet! LOL! I'm really enjoying your posts and tips ... thanks so much for sharing all that you do - you're motivating me to tackle organizing our home one area at a time! Thanks!
