..............
I've had this project done for a while now, but was waiting to post it till after all the parade of homes
crazy-ness! (yes... that WAS a while back, but my life is a bit crazy lately)
Okay... so you know how you see a picture, and it TOTALLY inspires you.
I'm talking... consumes your mind, can'teat, sleep or focus on anything else!?!?!
:)
Well... that's how I felt about this picture here from Pottery Barn.
Yes... I know... you're already feeling inspired... right??? :)
I think it's the combination of the black and white photo's with the blue paneling.
Sooooo, me! I love it.
Anyway, once I finally got all my canvases printed, after a little drama... I knew I wanted to replicate this idea for my own home, somehow!
This is what I came up with.

If you took a second to click on that link above and read... you can TOTALLY tell how passionate I am about my
Color Incorporated Pro Lab Canvases
Honestly... there is NO ONE else I would trust my photos... turned AMAZING canvases, to!
They are SPEEDY, easy to work with and SO friendly.
Okay, so here is how I accomplished this custom piece of art!
First, I found this great over sized framed at DI (Deseret Industries Thrift store).
It was $10.00... which was a little pricey... but it was EXACTLY what I wanted... so I didn't DARE pass it up!

Surpirse!!! I spray painted it, flat white.
LOL
Then I had Cason cut me a piece of scrap beadboard to fit inside, where the glass use to be.
I used the larger style beadboard for this project, mostly because it's what I had left over.
I gave the broken glass to Ronda, my neighbor who used it to do THIS picture project!
Perfect fit :)
Next, I took some leftover blue, from the Girls' bathroom, and painted the beadboard.
Everyone asks what color this is... and I hate to say... I mixed Dockside Blue, from Sherwin Williams, with a bunch of regular ol' semi-gloss white... so I don't have an EXACT color... BUT I did a little color matching and it is almost IDENTICAL to the color... "Upward" from Sherwin Williams!
Since I had all this beadboard below, on the wall, already... I didn't want to distress and REALLY bring out the beadboard in the frame...(is there such thing as beadboard overload??? lol)
So I just left it alone... but DID distress the frame, itself.
I just took some sandpaper and rubbed it along the edges!
Since the frame was already dark brown to begin with... No inking or glazing necessary! woohoo! :)
Next I took the canvases from Color Inc. Pro Lab, and removed the hanging hardware off the back.
(Because I wanted my canvases to lay totally flat on my board)
If you're hanging your canvases right on the wall, Color Inc. has you covered! Each print is equip with hanging wire, AND these rubbery dots in each corner, so the canvas doesn't scratch up your wall!
Genius!
It's really NICE hardware! So I'm keeping it for another project.
Hmmm... does that make me cheap or thrifty??? lol.
Next I took my BFF's and adhered them to the canvases...
I really, honestly have a problem... I think I have about 5 more packs of these amazing strips in the garage. LOL
They work for EVERYTHING!
I really, honestly have a problem... I think I have about 5 more packs of these amazing strips in the garage. LOL
They work for EVERYTHING!
I put the command strips on either edge, like so.
Then I positioned the canvases where I wanted them, and stuck them to the beadboard.
I also printed a family established vinyl decal, in two colors, and rubbed it on in that top left corner...
you can buy one HERE from me.
Ta-da!
A HUGE piece of personalized artwork, for my living room shelf!
Here is a picture, a little farther back, so you can kinda get the scale of the frame.
It's a great size! Big enough to fill quite a bit of space on this huge shelf! Just what I was looking for.
The canvas sizes are
16x20
8x11
and
12x12
Wow, first comment! I would put a picture of my 3 kids on the canvas and hang it at the top of my stairs.

ReplyDeleteI follow House of Smith's, and, should I win this lovely giveaway, I would use it to do a family print. My immediate family recently relocated about four hours away from where we have always lived (and where my college is). ReplyDeleteI would have a picture of my husband and me (just the two of us together) -- going into this empty-nester stage is new for us and we haven't had a picture of the two of us in ages.
I will hold my breath until I hear the winner (haha)
I would get a picture of my kids. I love what you did!

I have an old black and white Maytag ad that my mom and her family were in when she was a child. I would LOVE to have it on a canvas and put it in my laundry room. A canvas would be perfect because the ad is sort of an odd shape to frame....
ReplyDeleteShelley! Great idea! I would totally get the picture of my hubby and I on our honeymoon in MAUI! It was at sunset and I've never seen anything as amazing as that exact moment! H.O.S. is my daily read!

Heidi Hill has sent you a link to a blog:
ReplyDeleteMy husband is in very poor health (due to an anthrax shot he received in the military). Because he's not mobile my friends purchased a photo session for us to be done in our backyard. I would LOVE to be able to save this memory right. Thank you for sharing so freely (I follow).
First off, I find your blog so inspiring, especially since my house currently looks just like the photos of your before! You have such great ideas and are such an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI would do a black & white canvas of my girls, or maybe the family and I love the idea of the family name and established date. So cute!

I check your blog everyday! Love all the creative ideas, helps motivate me to try new things. I don't have a lot of family photos, so I would love to have a beautiful picture of my family hanging on the wall.
ReplyDeleteIf I won I would totally have a picture of my two kids from when my son was just born. My daughter fell in love instantly, much to my surprise, and has never had any jealousy despite the 4 year age gap. She ADORES her brother and the feeling is mutual times ten for him. My favorite pic of them is her holding him and looking up the camera proudly smiling. Makes me melt thinking about it...
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blog by the way!
I love, love, love your blog and all the great ideas you share. I would love to get a canvase done of my time in Scotland with the rolled bailes of hay they had everywear on the patchwork fields.
ReplyDeleteLuuurrrrvvvv the blog. You make me laugh, and I truly like all of your ideas. Wish I was that crafty. But you give me great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteIf I won, this canvas, I have a really nice picture of my 3 daughter's playing in the sand. They are not facing the camera, but rather the ocean, it's just a picture that speaks to me, it shows me how their future holds so many possibilities, that strech out as far as the ocean. My oldest is going off to college in 1 year, and the sentiment seems so true, now more than ever. Sorry for the long comment!!!
That's gorgeous! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe were just at my nephew's wedding and our family photographer was doing the photobooth thing. We had a hilariously funny picture taken of us all decked out in hula gear and silly faces. Jason, the photographer, started laughing at how great it would be to blow it up and have it be our family photograph. I agree. It would be too fun! Soooooo....that's what I would print out for us. A silly family photograph which we just don't have enough of in our home. I feel that family photograph's make your house a home and I only have ONE 8x10 up.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I'm already a happy follower of your blog. I love that framed canvas project you did with the empty frame. I would love to have a picture of my little one that I took in an apple orchard last year.

ReplyDeleteI read your blog everyday! We recently had our family pics done, and I would love a canvas of one of them!
ReplyDeleteGREat job on your project! :)
ReplyDeleteI would definitely get a canvas printed of recent picture of my sisters, my mom and me! I am the only sister to move away - they all live close. We had a photo session before I left last month and I would LOVE to have a canvas of those moments displayed! :)
Winning this would be the "push" I need to update our family photo's! I would either get a black & white of the whole family or one of the two kids. I have so much wall space to fill, so there are so many options of where to put it!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the frame. I would have never thought to do it like that and yours looks so great! The vinyl lettering is a perfect touch too!
my love and i are moving into a new house and a print of us would be a WONDERFUL addition!

ReplyDeleteI have no idea what I'd get for such a huge canvas... Although I have this sweet picture of Princess Z in a princess costume, in her daddy's arms and they're hugging - with their eyes closed, like it's heaven. . .
Kids, or family. Love this!
ReplyDeleteI just love your blog! I am a new reader....I just found you a few weeks ago, but i'm pretty sure I've read through every post!
ReplyDeleteIf I won the canvas, I would put a maternity picture, so i can remember this very special time. A picture of my little girl Lily (who is due July 30th) and one of our new family!
I love this project! The black and white pics on the blue background work so well.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway too! I'd have to get a picture of my sons done.
I love reading your blog and would love to win the canvas! We just had professional photos taken of the kids and I know just which one I would choose for the canvas if I won! It is one of my two children standing together and I even told my husband before I saw your giveaway I thought it would look great on canvas!! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi, I just came across your site and I am a HUGE fan already! If I were to win the canvas, I'd put a pic of all three of my kids together, and I know EXACTLY where I'd hang it! I just moved into my house last year and I really need stuff on 2 walls, it is making me crazy! Thanks for your great ideas!

ReplyDeleteatwwalker@hotmail.com
Love your blog and all your insanely cute ideas!!
ReplyDeleteI go a little overboard with my camera so I think I'd have to do some looking for the perfect photo.
I'm a new reader to your blog but I am beyond thrilled that I came across it. You have really inspired me to take on a few new projects... especially when we move into base housing :)
ReplyDeleteI know the perfect picture I would use...I took some pictures of our baby girl wrapped up in one of her daddy's uniform shirts. It's a total surprise for him, I wanted him to have special pictures to take with him to training. I would use the one of her laying wrapped up in the shirt looking up at the camera. I would put the canvas in the office/his "man cave" which is completely decorated with all his military pictures, awards, etc. I know it would mean the world to him plus she looks absolutely adorable :)
ooh I so want a canvas print. I'd get a sweet picture of my daughter and I when she was born. It's me kissing her on her forehead. Or I have a cute picture of her at the beach looking out over the water with sun all over her bum. So cute!
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed!!

ReplyDeleteI have been crossing my fingers someone would have a giveaway like this!
ReplyDeleteI would get a print of my 6 month old daughter Eve. Everyday I love something new about her, but by far my favorite moments are when she laughs. I have the perfect picture that catches her mid giggle and I would love to put it in our bedroom! It would be a great way to start every morning - that and a few cups of coffee :)
I need a new family photo since we have a new addition. This would be perfect. I love this idea I just bought myself a big old frame today at the DI to to a spin off variation of this. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteOh I just LOVE what you have done with those pictures of your Beautiful family. If I won the contest, I would put a new family picture of my little family of three, since I havent gotten a family picture taken with my sweet seven month old baby boy yet... much overdue. We just got into a house and I want to do something fun for one of my many blank walls in my home. A gorgeous picture from them all done up with photoshop would look just spectacular!! You can never have too many pictures of your babies!!! Thanks so much for this awesome give-away!!
ReplyDeleteAngie L.
OH gosh this is hard. I REALLY want a canvan print of my job site, I know I know sounds crazy, but I actually work for the company that is building the Hoover Dam bypass bridge and we're almost finished. and since it's a once in a lifetime project, I'd REALLY like to have something specail to remember it by.
ReplyDeleteBUT I'd also love one of my kids too, so if I win I'll probably end up buy 1 or 4 more!!!
Thanks for such a great give away!!!
chrisgreedy@hotmail.com
Oh and I follow you, cant remember if we need to mention that too.
Thanks again
I am a follower. I have 2 photos I would have to decide between getting printed on canvas. 1. A picture taken last year on my birthday of me in a cheap wedding dress riding one of my parents horses in a field. 2. A picture of my hubby and I on our wedding day. Well, its actually just a picture of our shoes, but to me it shows us walking on one path instead of two.
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog a few weeks ago and it has now become a daily obsession! Thank you for all of the wonderful ideas.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a large picture of my beautiful daughter to hang on the wall of our home.

I love the canvas' as well! Such great ideas.Thank you for offering this give-a-way! If I won I would probably do a family photo, or a picture of my son. Not that I don't already have a ton of them, everywhere :0)
ReplyDeleteI am a new reader/follower of your blog. I never win these things, but I would love to win this one! I really need a current family photo printed. A large canvas would be awesome! Here's to hoping :)
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm a follower! I love your site and all of the fun ideas.
ReplyDeleteAs for what I would put on my canvas....I would actually have to really think about it because I would want to put our latest family portrait on it but then I would also want to put something more timeless on it(because the family changes so much) like maybe a picture of the Salt Lake temple. Decisions, decisions. But for sure if I won it I would then start a large picture collage on my huge family room wall! Ooooh this has me excited!
This is gorgeous! I love the look of canvas prints. I have not done anyone myself...and I of course we get my kiddos photos on a canvas! The frame is fabulous...I would have paid $10 too!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love that canvas and frame!!! I have been a follower of your blog for about a month. I found it thru Nie Nie's. I am totally not a crafty person. (usually would rather buy it done,LOL) But with the economy its a little tight right now. Anyway, I have loved the things you have done in your house! I actually just finished something you made! I am so proud of myself because I don't usually do things like this! I told my crafty sis-in-law, "I bought a glue gun" She about died!!! I made one of your crate paper rose hanging balls!! I am going to post it on my blog. It was a HUGE moment for me!!! Any way I love your blog, your house and projects and you have a darling family!!! By the way, I am going to try a couple more of your ideas, and I have bought 4 cans of Walmart Flat White Spray paint:)

Hmmm... I have a major issue. While I would love, LOVE, *LOVE* to win this giveaway I may have a hard time picking just one canvas. My "free" canvas may turn into a whole buncha money spent but a lifetime of precious memories preserved!
ReplyDeleteOh I just found your givaway! My comp. has been down! I would love to have a canvas of my three girls all together, (which isn't easy to come by, lol) and to have a great family portrait on a beautiful canvas would be so great! And of course I am a House of Smiths reader!

ReplyDeletesarahmagette at gmail dot com
Please pick me! My odds aren't that great being one of the later entries but I have some really cute niece and nephew pictures that I would love to get done for their grandparents. My parents just finished a new room and my mom is having a hard time figuring out what artwork to add. What better thing than her grandkids! I'm also an avid reader! and Follower! I'm in and out of here a couple of times a day!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower & I would probably use a picture I have of my three little boys (5yrs, 2.5yrs and 1 yr)peeking their little heads out of the rim of my bathtub grinning. What a great giveaway and I love your blog!
