Aubrielle's First Day of Preschool

 {Because I'm the Mom...}

...and I can put cute pictures of my kids on my blog, for no reason :)

Can we interupt this program for a short little blurp about how BIG my baby is getting!?
She officially started preschool this week, and loves it!
...maybe a little too much :(

Whenever something huge happens around here, I get frantically camera happy.
Luckily Aubrie sat long enough for me to snap a few pictures of her, so
I could remember this milestone.

Okay, so literally just a FEW, ha!
2 minutes...later...
Aaaaaand it was over. LOL
Doesn't this face just read..."Mooom!  Let's go to school!!!"

A short "flight" later...

And we were there :)

She sat right down, started playing with a puzzle, and the next thing that came out of her mouth was...
are you ready for this?
"Mom?  Why aren't you not leaving yet?"
:(
OH.MY.GOSH!
I may or may not have walked out in the hallway and almost started crying. lol.
heart breaking, sobbing, blubbering, feeling like I lost my sidekick...
I'll admit, I'm new to this whole... "School Mom" thing, but please tell me that I don't have the only kid who WASN'T throwing a fit, crying, screaming and begging her Mom to stay!?!
 *siiiiiiiiiiigh*
Okay... luckily today is Friday and I get my kids all to myself, because there's no school.
whew! :)

  1. When I dropped my son off for preschool we got to the door and he said "I don't need you to walk me in Mom, I know the way". Yep I cried, so you are not alone!!

  2. She is so so precious! I love that little gray shirt she's wearing!

Don't worry my 3 year old (almost 4 now) started MDO this past year and she always gets upset if I try to walk her in instead of dropping her off in carline like the other moms. Seriously? Broke my heart, but hey, at least she loves it!

  3. I cried the first day too...........and my daughter was like, Mom you can go. Oy vay.

  4. She is so stinkin' cute in that coat with the skinny jeans!! I'm sure she was SO happy to see you at the end of the day! :) Happy Weekend!

  5. When my daughter started in August she practically did the same thing. No hugs or kisses when we took her into her classroom. She actually started to run when she saw her teacher down the hallway. OUCH!

  6. ahhh baby love is the BEST kind of love...makes us wanna just schmooch those cheeks - while they're little and we still have the chance!!

  7. Don't ya love independent kids?! My son was the same way when he started preschool a few years ago. The first day, after I had stayed a few minutes to get him settled, he looked at me and very pointedly said, "You can leave now Mom!?" Oh well. My oldest cried every day for the first 2 weeks of preschool so I guess I'll take the old shove off over the tears!

P.S. Your darling girl sure is a doll...just like her Mama! LOVE that polka dot top!!!!

  8. I had the same thing happen to me when my little started pre school recently. I'll admit when I got back in the car I cried. Now I hate to admit but I do a little dance when I drop her off because it means free time for MOM.

  9. she is a sweetie! that is hilarious that she wanted you to leave. what an independent little girl! i love that your blog is the perfect mix of home decor/design and family life.

  11. The picture of her "flying" is so cute!! And it is probably a good thing that she took going to school like a champ! Give her time... she'll probably start begging you not to go soon enough! lol

  13. Cute pictures! Love that coat of hers btw... I saw it at Old Navy but had already bought her dress coat for this season!

Curious- do some preschools start mid-year? My daughter is waaaaaay ready to start but seems like everyone starts in August. How'd you get her started mid year?

  14. She is absolutely adorable! It's always harder on the momma's when they start school isn't it!

  15. Aw! That's tough on the moms, but it is so much better for the kids when their attitude is one of anticipation and excitement. It would be even more heart-wrenching if you had to peel her off your leg while she cried for you not to leave her.

(I've had it both ways. Trust me: "You can go now, mom" is much better.)

  16. Once you go to pick her up, she'll have missed you. ;o) She's totally adorable. I sometimes toy with the idea of putting my son in a pre-school for a few hours a day, a few days a week. But then I start blubbering, and that idea is put on hold for a few more months.

  18. First I have to say ALREADY?!? Can't believe that she is big enough to go to preschool! :( She is so darn cute!! Every morning when Hayden gets up he asks if he has school! Which is only Tues.& Thurs. guess I should be happy that he wants to go everyday :/

  20. I used to teach at a preschool, and we had very few kids who DID throw fits... but that doesn't mean they don't miss their parents terribly and talk about them all day :) Really, kid's talk about their parents a lot during the day about cool things they do... and how their mom and dad's KISS when they get home from work. Gross.

    :)

  23. My oldest Graham could not get rid of me fast enough. I cried and cried and cried. My 2nd oldest Greg had to practically be carried in. I skipped out of the school happily.

We'll see what Lauren does this fall.....

  24. She is positively radiant! : )
    What a little cute-pie.

  25. Your daughter is soo cute! I love her top!

Because I work full-time school was no big change from day care for my children who are always eager to learn. I started them in pre-school as early as they would let them in 2-1/2 for my daughter and 3 for my son. They were much more content after starting school.

    ReplyDelete
  26. BOTH of my girls did that same thing when they started Kindergarten! They asked me when I was going to leave... I DID walk out the door and cry like a big baby!

    ReplyDelete
  27. My kids do the same thing. Breaks my heart! I don't think I want the alternative either though!
Love her outfit! She looks so cute! Where did you find that shirt? I love your style and taste and enjoy stalking your blog!

  28. You so aren't the only one with an independent little Missy! My little Sassy pants actually cried when she saw me there to pick her up on her first day of preschool. I didn't know if I should laugh or cry!

  34. I feel your pain as if it were yesterday! My baby couldn't WAIT to go to "school". So from preschool on, she has anxiously waited for the first day of school. She only has two years left, but still feels the thrill with new school clothes and school supplies. I'll be sad to see it end.

  35. This brought back memories of our daughter! She was just like this and then when she went to kindergarten, she let us walk her in the first day and the second day she told us nicely but sternly that we were not allowed to walk her in anymore, she could do it by herself. Oh we were so sad... and I think I remember some crying too. She's a sophomore in College now... how time flies.

    ReplyDelete
  36. She is sooo stylish and darling! My daughter was just like that, sat right down, forgot about me completely and it has continued in every class/activity she goes to. My son on the other hand, complete opposite. Bursts into tears EVERYTImE. It takes him about a month to adjust... but I'M the same everytime, heart aches, a couple of tears, and then I'm just happy for the break:)

  37. What a cutie!!! She is getting so big & her hair is getting so long. I love her outfit!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. So caute!!! My youngest would have driven herself if she could!!! She loved preschool. And, as a former preschool teach...those are the ones we love the most.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love the coat she is wearing! My son said the same thing when I dropped him off at preschool. My daughter is a little more attached, but she did ask why the kids were crying when their moms left.

  40. My baby is only two months and I am dreading the day he has to go to school...and a little bit excited ; )

  41. OH my I love her outfit! So cute! I know how you feel, my daughter was like; "Mom, I know the way... you can go!" :(....

  42. What a cutie pie! You know I cry every first day of school..even for my high schooler..I think I cry more for him. They grow up way too fast...it's not fair!

  43. I don't even get to wait as long as preschool...my 13 month old son doesn't even care when I drop him at the sitter's before work every day. He's so excited to see her that I can barely keep him in my arms once we're at her house. Where's the love, I ask you!

  44. She looks like she had everything under control, Miss Fashionista!
My 3rd daughter (my baby) sat right down in pre-K with her hands folded and waved with NO EMOTION for ME either! (she is in 6th grade now!)

My oldest left our home in California to attend college in Virginia this year...(serves me right, I left San Diego to go to that VERY SAME school BUT I did meet my husband there!) When we finished the week of moving in, seeing old friends and getting her settled, we drove and hour away to catch our flight home the next day. We went to dinner (and I KNEW if I ate I would surely feel better) But when the salads arrived and my husband prayed for the food and added ,"and be with our little girl" with a quivering voice, I cried and cried. (So did he.) The poor waitress! We couldn't even eat our food...or talk. ~What these children do to us!~

You will be okay, and she is OBVIOUSLY okay! Think of the projects you'll accomplish!

  50. Your girls are GORGEOUS!! SO ADORABLE <3

If you're a cry baby like me, you can expect to cry every year from here on out! It NEVER has gotten easier for me. My oldest started 8th grade this year and I CRIED!!! My baby is in 1st grade...school all day...and I CRIED!!! I wish so bad they could stay little and innocent.

Good for you and your camera happiness!!! I suffer the same disorder. One day, ooooone day, my kids will appreciate the fact that I took the time to do that. Right now it just annoys them. ;)

BTW, I went to Home Again today, beause of the awesome post you did!! I scored me some FUN vintage stuff! YAY!

  58. What a cutie! She's absolutely adorable and could, no doubt, be a little model! I remember when Imani first went to kindergarden and I was crying when her bus pulled away. Meanwhile, she was grinning from ear to ear and waving frantically through the bus window. She couldn't wait! Ahhh . . . and now I get to do it all over again as we embark on this journey of having a little baby in a couple of months!

  59. She is cute as a button, and seriously looks like Cason with a bow on his head!

  62. Shelly, my dear, this is such a darling little post. What adorable photos and I just love all the details. Does it help you to know that little H will not even let me walk into the school with him? When I asked why, he said "Ugh. How embarrassing."

    ReplyDelete
  63. wow, she is so cute. My "baby" just started daycare last week at 14 months and I definitely cried more than she did. Today was the first time her dad dropped her off with no tears!!

  64. OH my heck! That is my kids school! My son goes to that same preschool class! She has some amazing teachers, we have had them for two years... I didn't know you lived that close to me! What a small world! And I always think it's a good thing when you drop your kids off with no tears it means you have made one strong independent baby girl!

  65. This is a late comment, but I was one of those kids. My mom still tells the story about how I walked off into the building without her my first day of preschool, and never even looked back. She said I did the same thing when I got on a plane to move from Chicago to Los Angeles by myself at 19. She cried both times, but was proud that she raised an independent kid, and you should be too!
